Guest guest
Sorry , I don't have any experience with hives. I hope you can find something to help him though.
Guest guest
I don't think it's the kidney disease as such. I don't recall, is your son on an ACE inhibitor? That can sometimes cause it. Pierre Yes, but the hives started about 3 months before he started taking meds.
Guest guest
, My sympathies for you and your son. I break out in hives when I'm under severe stress. Had a very nasty period about ten years ago back when I was in law school. Would be covered almost head to toe in huge ugly hives - felt like the creature from the black lagoon. Ended up in the ER once when they were so bad I couldn't breathe. Went through expensive allergy testing (tested allergic everything) and treatment for several years to no avail. Got out of law school and the whole mess cleared up. It recurs now and then when I'm badly stressed. My nickel sense of it all is that it's an autoimmune thing. I don't have kidney problems, but think I may have passed my own tendency to autoimmune responses to - and in his case it manifests itself as kidney related. However, that's entirely speculative. I don't believe the allergy testing they did - I think I was so enormously stressed at the time, my body would have reacted to anything (it even reacted to the control injections!). Adolescence is stressful enough by itself, without throwing kidney disease on top of it. Is it possible that your son is experiencing something similar? Here's a few things that help a bit (1) Hot baths with a cup or so of dissolved baking soda (I buy baking soda in huge bags at Costco). (2) I weave a frozen otter pop between my fingers for hives on my fingers. The long shape of the otterpop works much better than any icebag. (3) Tigerbalm occationally works as a counter irritant. If you come up with anything to combat hives, please let me know! Here's hoping that they GO AWAY! I did change laundry detergent (cheaper brand for towels and sheets) and thought maybe that was causing it. I switched back to Tide and rewashed everything in this house. He's still breaking out in hives. I've noticed it's happening the most when he's hot from playing basketball, or being overly active. I asked his Neph about it, who denies it has anything to do with his kidney problems (this was before he was diagnosed). Anyone have some insight on this??
