Guest guest
.........You nailed it one the head about learning to allow oneself to be upset. That was a hard one for me to learn - since just being upset was so upsetting for me! lol!!! Resistance only cements and magnifies for me - for better or worse, for me acceptance is the only path to yielding and moving through....... also has that devotion to his school and indomitable spirit that you describe in Aubrie ) ... it would take tremendous pain or illness to keep him away from school - yet I was blindsided by the turn of events when he was about eleven - he developed that perfectly developmentally appropriate ability to gauge himself against his peers (this is good right? developmentally appropriate is all we strive for!) and he chose the highest functioning non-medically non-diagnosable children at school as his peer group (another good thing right? sets his standard high - doesn't see himself as something other than mainstream) and thus opened a whole world of heartache, loneliness, self-dissatisfaction and self-growth borne (which continues intensely and incessantly) of pain and yearning. It is a painful vulnerable privilege and joy to see him bear this journey. with love, Yuka Surely, my image of her is not warped. Another fear... Guest guest
Yuka - One of my favorite parables is about a man carrying a piece of wood (I picture a sheet of plywood) up a hill against the wind. He is struggling with the wind pushing against the board. Once he figures out to turn the wood sideways, his task is so much easier. Same guy, same hill, same wood, same wind -- much much easier. So now I remind myself to " turn the wood " ! I think I read this is the " Tao of Pooh " -- a wonderful book, if you haven't already read it. Guest guest
Pam- I wish there were more people who wanted to understand others. I, too, really appreciate getting in to another person's being. I do this through the list and through reading, but I listen carefully for other glimpses that I might get through my every day exchanges with friends. It's not a nosy kind of thing, but a desire to really understand all of the human condition. Does that make sense? Understanding others gives me a better understanding of myself and a better grasp of what this world, life, etc is all about.
