In which groups are you a member? I am in several myself. I like to get the emails vs going to the web site. Reading and replying take too long on the web site. Besides, I want to make sure that I don't miss even one. I always read ALL of them. You are right, it takes a long time, especially if you get behind. I had over 500 in just one afternoon a day or so ago.

The 4 lists I am on are quitsmokingbuddies & nicotinebusters because I am trying to give up smoking, this group because I've gained 60 pounds over the past 2 years while trying to give up smoking and depressionsupport1 for support with my depression disorders.

I love all the groups! They are all very busy groups. I can't really keep up with them all, but I do read them all. I'm just slow answering most of the time. And I too prefer to get the messages through email. I save them into my personal filing cabinet on AOL and read them at my leisure.
