Don't be jealous! You'll make me feel bad!

For the first three weeks I didn't feel that feeling and it was weird for it

not to be there! I had gotten kind of used to it after 12 years of living

with it. Then all of the sudden it showed up again. So that's when I

started making soup a habit. It's the only thing that makes it happy. I

can't eat much soup so one can takes about four tries to finish. When I'm at

work that's more like 5 or 6 tries...in between trying to work. If I eat too

much soup (only did this once) I am in extreme pain! Was not a good night!

Lasted about an hour or so. I wont do that again! I think I'm rambling!

Anyways, I hope this answers your question Vicki!

Hope you don't mind if I jump in here and answer your question to .

It is a bit strange to be losing weight and not feel like I'm suffering. But

it's such a wonderful experience. I feel free from the suffering associated

with food. I really do eat what I want. There are some things I don't want

any more. I had the strangest experience today at lunch. I went to Torero's

(mexican restaurant) with a colleague today, and they brought us a basket of

those tortilla chips that they always have with salsa. I took one small bite

and thought that it tasted strange and not at all appealing. I asked my

friend to try one to see if they might really be bad, but she said they were

fine. To me they felt way too oily and almost rancid tasting. I've

discovered that fried foods have lost their appeal as well. They don't taste

all that good to me any more, and they don't settle well, so I avoid them.

I'm much more likely to pick vegetarian dishes, especially cooked vegetables

and salads.

Sometimes I find myself worrying that maybe I should be doing more, eating

less, etc, but then I get on the scale at the end of the week and I've lost

several more pounds. I think it may take awhile for all of us to get past

those feelings that have always accompanied " dieting " .

We talk about crossing over to the " other side " , but it really does feel that

way, literally. Life is different. It is wonderful.

I'm jealous, too, ! I'm curious about something. My whole life

losing weight has been associated with suffering. If I was on a diet (and when

WASN'T I?), if I wasn't feeling that empty, gnawing feeling, I was afraid

nothing was happening to make me lose. Do you know the feeling I'm talking

about? And if you don't have that feeling, is it weird to be losing? Please

share. My insurance folks are being real pooty heads so I may be waiting

awhile.

Dave,

Congratulations! It does feel great, doesn't it!?

Slowly, but surely, I'm getting more and more energy! This is the part I

really like!

Hmmm...what sport should I train for? What are you going to train for?

Let's do it!

:)

Thanks, Katy, for your real life experience. Feel free to jump in any time. I

am, and always have been, an information seeker (nearly to the point of

annoyance). In my patient letter to Dr. Rutledge, I said that I nearly drove

everyone nuts when I was thinking of buying a new dishwasher. You can just

imagine how agonizing this decision has been for me. Any and all input is

appreciated, and it is wonderful that your experience has been so positive.

Nobody wants to imagine feeling a gnawing hunger for the rest of their lives,

but

even if I did, it sounds like the benefits far outweigh any discomfort. Thanks!
