I had to chuckle at 'smart and informed. " I think it comes with age. I'll

be 43 in June! I was the exact same age...to the month..when I gave birth

to my 10th as my mother was when she had her first grandchild!!!! AUGH!!!!

lol. Chani is following our counsel which is, " If you or any young man you

are dating is not ready for marriage...then only group date. " So...our 18

1/2 year old BEAUTIFUL and PERSONABLE daughter still prefers to run with her

friends..both young men and women...rather than single date..so at least it

will be a while before I have to add Grandma to my experience.

Cherie,

My pedi and I decided to give the dead vaccine first to immunize my son against

the immunization. That is what I had done with my daughter out of instinct. I

would have been one of those people who wouldn't have thought to tell the

babysitter although I would never have my son babysat soon after vaccines. I

like to be near to check for reactions. Thank you for reminding me about

babysitters. I haven't had any teenagers watch them yet but it is good to keep

in mind. You are very smart and informed.

I just wanted to add that the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends

the dead (which is an injection) for the first immunization and the live for

the boosters (which is given orally). My first son had the oral polio

vaccine for all three of his, and my next two (who are now four and two) had

the injected (dead) first, followed by the oral (live). With my husband in

the military and traveling to other countries, the question of whether or

not to immunize never came up with us. The Japanese (my oldest son was born

in Japan, and we are about to return for another four years) are not good

about keeping up with their childrens' immunizations and they have a lot of

deaths every year because of it. So, of course, with living there for the

first two years of my ds's life we automatically had him immunized. I'm not

trying to put anyone's opinion down, this is just what we did :o)

Just recently the

>AMA approved of the dead virus for polio vaccination. Before you had to go

>to Canada to get it easily. We coulnd't go to Canada easily. Even now,

>doctors are still instructed to give the live or intenuated immunization to

>children for their first round and the dead can be given for any boosters.

Cherie,

That sounds like good advice, to group date. Much safer these days.
