Guest guest
You didn't say what the name of the meter is, but I think we've talked about a meter advertised as you described. If I recall correctly, you'll want to stay away from it. The meter that many of us use is called the Prodigy Voice. It is completely accessible, and is available from at least 2 companies. It is covered by Medicare if you are in the US. Canadians are not yet able to have their insurance cover it, but I believe that may be changed at some point. You can ask some more questions, or go directly to the Prodigy Voice url as follows: http://67.199.77.126/our_meters.php?cat=4 Dave Writing and speaking for a Higher purpose. Guest guest
I'm not sure we ever did get the actual meter name. But, I think the general consensus still is that the fingers are the best and most reliable place to draw samples from. I'm not sure the physiologic reasons. The next time I see that ad, I might call just to see if they will tell me what the meter is. Want to make bets they will -- NOT! question about new talking glucos reader. hi list like the subject line says I would like to know about a perticular glucos reader. Guest guest
I also have one of the small hand held Prodigy gluco meters. I just bought the whole kit. But one question when I check my blood sugar with it it read about 15 to 20 points higher than the breeze 2 meter I have. I checked it against two other meters the same readings occur. My question is do I need to change anything in the set up? I am using code 14 strips and the meter is set up for code 14 strips. Please let me know what to do thanks. Guest guest
Hi, Don't be fooled that this is the end of finger poking. Most meters today can do what's called alternate site testing. However conditions must be just right to use the other sites other than your fingers. For example, you cannot do alternate site testing when you are having a hypoglycemic reaction. There are also other conditions that have to be observed to use other sites. Using other sites do not have as reliable of readings as the fingers. The meter as others have mentioned that was on t.v. was called the companion by U.S.A. medical. It is not as fully accessible as The ProdigyVoice, so your money is better spent buying a Voice meter. It too can do alternate site testing. The two places you can get it from are Home Care Supply of America 1- and Advanced Diabetic Solutions of Georgia 1-.
