valtrex is for herpeis and not strep, and virastop is for viruses not for PANDAS as it's bacterial and autoimmune

Valtrex for PANDAS?

My son has tried several different antibiotics and is on daily OLE and Virastop for PANDAS with no improvement in his symptoms. Has anyone used Valtrex successfully with PANDAS?

We've heard that inositol + choline given together is a must. I have 1 w Pandas

and we started out on a large does of antibiotics and then moved to a lower dose

to maintain. We were on florastor for the first 2 weeks and then VSL#3

probiotics ongoing because the doc said that florasor killed a " good " strep

bacteria, VSL did not. We've been pretty successful but I've heard others say

that no strains of strep can be tolerated by their kids.

I've not heard anything about Valtrex and Pandas but I do have one child on

Valtrex for 2.5 years who started reacting normally in his response to typical

kid viruses (like he got runny nose cough w a cold, not a raging fever and

vomit) and we believe its because Valtrex modulates his adenosine levels, if

that helps.

I would think that if the PANDAS symptoms are also occuring with viruses, as my

DAN thinks is the case in my son, then maybe valtrex would help. I have been

wondering the same thing and am thinking about giving an antiviral protocol a

try.

Just wanted to add that you can still use Valtrex on a PANDAS kid, though. If a PANDAS kid also has a virus problem then Valtrex would still be helpful but like others have said, it won't do anything for the PANDAS.

If the PANDAS symptoms are caused by actual PANDAS, then valtrex or antivirals will not help. PANDAS is by definition a strep disorder. Strep is bacterial, and the true issue with PANDAS lies in the antibodies triggered by a strep infection.
