Dave--

Speaking as a former Ricer, and having many friends who were also at DFC, I

greatly appreciated your story.

I count my blessings that I never have to go to either place again.

Dave,

Looks like we have more i common thatn just Michigan. I too attended

D.F.C. back in 87>A long time ago. I agree it was a great site with some

great friends made while there. There was a foreign Female Dr. There

when I attended.

Ithink DFC is really a pretty good place. In fact, it was Dr. Hamilton at

DFC who suggested I seriously look at surgery. And even if I didn't keep the

weight off permanently, my month-long visits to DFC were the only times when

I didn't feel like a freak. Theirs is the only swimming pool I've been in in

20 years.

I can't say I remember your friend's name, but I'm horrible at remembering

them. I was last there in January and February of 1997.

I agree that the facility is pretty impressive, although they are in the

midst of a major fund drive for the purpose of building a new facility with

greater capacity, closer integration with the Duke cardiac rehab program, and

dormitory space.

My father had a one-year fellowship at Duke in the academic year 1965-1966,

so I graduated from Durham High School. The building which is now DFC was

the YMCA in my day, and I spent hundreds of after school and weekend hours

playing basketball and ping pong and enjoying the pool.

When I signed up for DFC the first time (I think it was 1983), I had not been

back to Durham since high school graduation. Imagine my surprise when I

discovered the DFC facility was none other than my beloved YMCA!
