Guest guest
" so on the face of it his nutritional intake should be much improved from when he was just eating wheat and dairy 2 months ago. " Will has only been SCD for 4 weeks and he has seen lots of changes these last 2 months. His body may still be adjusting to the new foods and the supplementation after such a short time. The speech issues seem to have been present a long time. Speech in some kids with autism is something that needs constant attention, focus and excercise. I assume you know all about it. I wish I could give you a clue, but I can only tell you that my son started asking questions (aka hitting an important milestone) after 4 months on SCD. He is 7 now, he was 6 at that time. In a way I can relate, because when we started scd, I more or less expected instant miracles. These do not happen, we 'only' see small miracles. Still, without the right food, my son would never have made the gains he did. Give it time. About the yoghurt, you need to elaborate a bit about his sensitivities. After about 3 months of 100% compliancy of SCD you can - very cautiously - try the 24h goat's yoghurt. A detailed description on how to make either goat's or nut yoghurt can be found on www.pecanbread.com. Thanks, you're so right, it is a slow process but it's encouraging to hear that developmental gains can still be made by staying the nutruitional course. > About the yoghurt, you need to elaborate a bit about his > sensitivities. > After about 3 months of 100% compliancy of SCD you can - very > cautiously - try the 24h goat's yoghurt. > A detailed description on how to make either goat's or nut yoghurt > can be found on www.pecanbread.com. Oops! I'm still having a hard time on the timing issue. I gave him about 1 TBS of goat's yogurt last week and it didn't cause D (at the start of the diet he instantly went from small hard pebbles to soft formed BM's with just an occaisional unformed one when he eats too many nut muffins) so I gave him another TBS earlier this week. I was also successful with your nut yogurt recipe yesterday and gave him 1 TBS of that this morning. Do you think I should back off of all yogurt for a while? Looks like you treat the yoghurt very cautiously anyway. BUT how long have you been doing scd? Marjan
Guest guest
When you've got a good handle on the SCD, I'd do mercury chelation. Of all the therapies we did, and we did MANY, I think one of the biggest contributing therapies was chelation therapy. We did it 3 or 4 years ago, before the SCD information came out. It was amazing. His language improved with every dose of chelation, and especially improved on challenge weekends. They said at the most recent DAN that we should chelate again after doing the SCD for a while. Guest guest
Well, I got my answer yesterday afternoon about the nut yogurt - big time D! So either it was the yogurt or drinking from the kiddie pool in the backyard (impossible to stop him - he thinks he's blowing bubbles!). I'll wait another month and try again. How is he today? Are you seeing any kind of improvement in behavior, awareness, speech, hyperactivity, etc.? If this is a possibility, you might want to just try a much smaller amount (1/4 teaspoon if that isn't what you already gave him) and see if you can get the die-off to move more slowly, but still forward. If you think that's it, you could give activated charcoal to help with the die-off and/or epsom salt baths. I don't know, for me, I do like to see die-off, but not so big that it really is painful or horrible. That's why we do the yogurt so gradually. Of course, I could be totally off-track... Take care, son - 5yo ASD, SCD 14 months
