Guest guest
Hi , My 11 year old son was diagnosed with pandas at age 7. At 8 a specialist also diagnosed him with pitands. Jake's downward spiral started when he had mono at age 5. Epstein Barr levels on and off high over the years. Even when Jake has just a cough I know behaviors and OCD is not far behind. Jake rarely is sick. I monitor his health through his behavior usually. The good news is since putting him on the GFCF/ sugar free diet 2 years ago and having him on the NIDS protocol, he is doing much better. Pandas/ Pitands flare ups much less. Zithromax and Pen vk are a godsend. He also is on diflucan and valtrex. Minimizing inflammation is key, Jake is also on allegra and singulair. Jake's immune system is still overly reactive but he's in a better place Vicki To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, January 3, 2010 7:31:38 PMSubject: PITAND syndrome, any experience? I was wondering if anyone has a kid who reacts with pandas-type symptoms to viruses or other bacteria? My son's DAN suspects that this is now the case with my son and that we should do 3 days of steroids. He abruptly started his typical OCD, tics, aggression in the past 48 hours coinciding with quite a "cold". I am going to bring him for a strep culture in the morning, but I am wondering about PITAND just in case...Any experience, advice?

Guest guest
Hi Vicki, what is the NIDS protocol? Also, why Valtrex? To prevent other viruses? Would that prevent the common cold? My son did horrible on Singulair and Zyrtec...bad bad bad behaviors, much like pandas. But I guess all kids are different. Thanks for the feedback! > > Hi , > My 11 year old son was diagnosed with pandas at age 7. At 8 a specialist also diagnosed him with pitands. Jake's downward spiral started when he had mono at age 5.
