Had to give up dairy recently, so no more whey protein shakes. :( I can't find

any info on whether hemp is a goitrogen. I don't think so, but am not sure. Does

anyone know?

Thank you,

Kathleen

I too have issues with dairy and can't use whey. I don't know if hemp is a

goitrogen. I'd be surprised if anyone has actally tested for that, but who

knows? I did find one passable protein for use in shakes. Swanson Vitamins

online sells a powdered Pea Protein. It doesn't have a whole lot of taste to it.

It's made from non-GMO yellow peas, 1 scoop (22 scoops per container) has 17

grams of protein and 16 oz. costs around $10.00.

Or you can give them this link which stands for Let Me Good That For

You. I thought it was funny when I first saw it used but it makes a point:

Hi Stevie,

Well, the hemp is out for me anyway as it gave me bad congestion. Since glutine

does that to me, I suspect hemp may have some gluten in it. Thanks for the tip

on pea protein. It's off to try that now!

Okay, this may sound like a really stupid question...but I thought about it and

wondered if it matters whether one eats goitrogens if one is taking full

replacement thyroid meds and will be for life.

You left out the +.

You have to link all the words you are including in your search with a +. I

think " and " might work also.

You're right. I tend to review my posts and " see " what I want to be

there. A problem I haven't entirely solved.

I just checked in Dr. Duke's database and there is a listing for components that

have anti-thyroid activity. I verified that Almonds and Flax and radishes do

have this in their listing, so it seems to be right on target. Hemp does not

have this in it's listing, therefore it is very likely to be safe. If you ever

want to know anything and everything about a plant, this is the resource. just

do a search for Dr. Duke's database and it will come up.

BTW, pea (Pisum sativum) does come up in his list as having the same

anti-thyroid compound as radish and others, so I would be careful with that one

also.
