IS THIS A TRUE STATEMENT REGARDING THE THIMEROSAL CONTENT OF VACCINES USED IN GREAT BRITAIN? Great Britain experienced a rapid rise in autism among children born in the 1980's and early 1990's. Could this be due to thimerosal in vaccines? It is unlikely that the rapid increase in autism cases in the UK was due to thimerosal. The only vaccine in the UK's childhood immunization program that contains thimerosal is DTP. All other vaccines (OPV, BCG, MMR, Hib, menC) added to the program since the 1950's are and have always been thimerosal free. In addition, if thimerosal in vaccines were causing autism, we would expect to see a simultaneous increase in both thimerosal exposure and autism cases. However, from the 1950's on, there was no increase in the amount of thimerosal UK children were receiving from vaccines, yet there was a jump in autism cases in the 1980's. Guest guest
Hi Charlie I was Manager in general Medical Practice for 15 years from 1985, we always had multi dose vials of DTP supplied by our County Health Authority (NHS middle management). I can't see how they were Thimerosal free if they were multi's. My SIL is Nurse Practitioner and tells me all kiddie vaccs are supplied in single dose vials by OUR PARTICULAR Health Authority for 18 months or so now. It could vary wildly in different parts of the country. MD's don't order vaccines, the Government supplies them, money gets paid to GP's who reach 70% or 90% covergae of their particular practice population. Less than that they get no pay for the ones given - until they reach percentage of eligible kids. System stinks - very glad to be out of it! HTH Mandi in UK PS Congrats on Lenny's brilliant progress! > THE BELOW WAS ON THE CDC WEB SITE. Guest guest
Hi I am in UK, I remember when our practice started the MMR and mum's were worried that we were told 'they have it the USA for years now - no problmes or we would know about it - followed by - what a great system they have in USA, no shots, no school - thats what we need here in UK'!!! The big difference in Uk schedule is we have never had HEP B for babies or kids unless mother positive, otherwise we have increased doses and lowered age fr shots the same as US Mandi in UK > But that's when they combined the M, M & amp; R, right?
