I'm new as well but haven't gotten as far as you. I also have Fortis

Benefits and am curious - what was their reason for denying you? I'm more

nervous about this part of procedure than the surgery itself...

Trying contacting some lawyers also in your area to see if any would be

willing to approach this from a discrimination point of view.

Hi, I'm new. Dr. R told me this would be a good place to find out more

information

about the surgery. I've already been denied by my insurance company, and Debbie

said they would send in the appeal. Does anyone out there have Fortis Benefits?

Has anyone ever been approved by Fortis? I would appreciate any and all help.

Hi, and welcome. I don not have your ins but I am in the middle of an

appeal with Kaiser Permente. the people are great here and very

supportive, just ask if you have any questions. One word of advice,

write your own appeal letter too. There are samples on Dr R''s site.

I did not wait to hear from them, I phoned them and made the appeal

request over the phone. I made sure to date and note every call. I

told her I would send supporting documents in the mail, but that I

wanted my appeals process to begin the date of the phone request. I

called back in a couple of days to verify reciept. Also, you can send a

Priority mail item with a 35 cent delivery notification stamp. It gives

you a number to call and check the status of delivery of your package.

MY INSURANCE COMPANY DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING! (EXCEPT THAT THEY DENIED ME).

I thought the same thing, then I realized it was better to fight and

hold on to the chance that my life can improve instead of just giving up

.. Call your member services and your insurance commisioner tomorrow and

find out about the appeals process that is guarenteeed you by law.

It is called " Mini " because this type of surgery (laparoscopic) has also

been called Minimally Invasive (i.e. smaller incisions)

I have narrowed my physician choices down. I believe that Dr. R. is my

choice. I will be traveling from the Philadelphia area. If all goes well,

I would like to go back home as soon as possible. I am in the process of

seeing what is available by way of accomodations in NC. I wish I could go

through the surgery alone.

We have seen major problems with patients who try to come from far away and

stay alone, It can work, but it is not safe and I am opposed to it having

seen the problems that can happen.

I do not have anyone that I really want to share this decision with. I know

I could have my mother or sister come with me- but I would rather do it a

alone.
