Best of luck to you on your request to BCBS. I have BCBS of land and they

denied my first request from Dr. R. due to exclusion. Your's may be different.

Every BCBS is different and it depends on your employer's plan. I found it

helpful checking with my employer's Benefits Administrator. She actually found a

loophole for me where my employee's benefits handbook actually lists WLS as not

a total exclusion but rather indicates a BCBS rep must deem the surgery

medically necessary. I've just submitted my second request to them which

includes my diet history, a letter from my primary care physician diagnosing me

as morbidly obese and declaring the surgery medically necessary, as well as a

lot of other support documentation from respected organizations in the medical

field stating this surgery is necessary for me. I hope it goes well for you and

you don't have to do any battle. I've hear a lot of stories where BCBS has

approved with little fuss. Hopefully this will be what happens in your case as

well. Keep us here posted on your progress!!

I had BCBS of Michigan, which may be more generous than some of its

counterparts in other states. I must give the devil his due: I was approved

quickly (relatively) and with no questions asked.

I fear you are getting the weird <yp> code due to some settings under my

preferences. I've made a few adjustments to my Outlook options. Hopefully my

responses will now appear in text you can actually read :-) Please advise if

you're unable to read this. I may have to reinstall Explorer to correct.
