> Well I am Hannah Hamer (as in Haymer) but EVERYONE calls me Mrs Hammer.

Yes, my DDs are fed up with being White, Wyatt, Witt, Wynant, Whyant, I keep

reminding them its their Dad`s fault.

I stuck to my maiden name (Holloway : usual conversation - 'is that as in

the Prison?' 'No- as in Royal Holloway College') till I went back after

having DD1. It was worth the sacrifice to know that if there was an

emergency, the switchboard would be able to trace me *immed.

Is it just me?When anyone calls out 'Mrs Wyant' I instinctively think

they`re calling for MIL!....it`s her name, not 'mine' (but then its not

really hers either...

Try spelling or pronouncing Laatsch. it rhymes with watch (and has been

pronounced right publicly for graduations, etc exactly ONCE) and is

spelled " L-double A, yes two A's, no not U-A, it's A-A T-S-C-H. no, SCH,

not CH. T-S-C-H. yes 4 consonants in a row. " Then I married a Wilke

(will-key, but everyone pronounces it Wilk or else spells it Wilkie.)

Dang German names!

Phyllis (which is frequently misspelled too. I had to practically hold the

receptionist at the hospital down and whack her over the head to get her

to spell it right in their computer so my son would have a chance of

having it right in his records, too)

>Moo-r! As in 'no, not 'Muir', ' which seems to be a very

>big part of every telephone conversation I have. Then it's 'is

>that M-double-oh-r?' 'Nooooooo, Moo*r*e* <sigh>'

Ah, thats an easy one :) imagine having to say " Lesley, yes

that's

L-e-s-l-E-Y, yes I know its strange, no I don;t know who changed it

from

the proper ish way. " Then, when the flaming parcel/missive

arrives

its still spelled - and the final insult is the fact that people

are

forever calling me Lesley instead of . Wish I'd stuck to being

plain

Brown.

LOL i'm like that, especially as MIL & I are both teachers, Mrs Nutt is

*her* and in my head as far as work went i was always Miss Hayman (and the

kids usually reverted to that anyway!!)

One of my bros said when he started work and was being addressed as Mr

Hayman he kept looking around for Dad (Dad is a teacher and taught both DBs)

Try being Rabin - which most of you won't know how to pronounce. But just to

show the old grass isn't always greener, DH is Stuart . He has such an

unmemorable name, and it's so common that he was always having taxis

cancelled, losing restuarant bookings etc. ( oh it was the wrong )

That's why the Rabin-; when I phone anyone, they remember the name

although tghey can't spell it or say it. Once had someone ask me how to

spell hyphen! ;-)

Rabin-

BFC (still trying to get used to it)

We used to get really irritated by someone who always left ansaphone

messages as:

'Please ask for Miss Ann Devine'

until we realised how many people rang for Andy Vine.

I was once pictured in a newspaper for some 'do' at work, the

photographer/reporter obviously didn`t check his scrawl against the picture

cos I was named as 'Bernard' Holloway.

Needless to say, it stuck!

(Our address has 'Copse' in it somewhere but one of `s nieces is

convinced we live in a 'Corpse')

Bernard ;-) (Barbara, Barbra, Barbera, Bearbera....but never Babs please)

Yes, it's the same Dey. Can't see as she's done anything since (or

even between).

Membership Secretary (called Chris) saying " I just keep getting this

answerphone message from Robin Crisp. (the message actually said Rob and

Chris).

>Try being Rabin - which most of you won't know how to pronounce.

How do you pronounce it then? I've always assumed it's like " rabbit " but

with an n on the end. Or is it like " rabies " with an n on the end? Or like

" Ribena " without the a on the end? Or like " ravine " with a b instead of a

v? Or like....
