headaches

Hey all..do any of you get headaches? I mean bad ones, that make you nauseous? I've been having them now for about 10 days.

Yesterday, I was turning my car around, to get back on the road. When I got back on the road, everything seemed backward or

something...All of a sudden a car came driving right towards me--I was on the wrong side of the road! I called my neuro to report

the headaches, nausea and this driving thing...He asked me what meds I was on...All he recommended was cutting back the

Cymbalta from 40mgs to 20mgs...Besides that, he seemed unconcerned and said he hopes the headaches go away or get

better. I also asked him what he thought of the Tysabri report. He asked me which one--I told him the one if you stop it, you

get more lesions--rebound effect. He said well, the Tysabri doesn't do that. I said I know, it is if you stop. He said to just

stay the course, and keep with it...

I'm just a wee bit frustrated...would you all be? Would you have expected a bit more response from your neuro in terms

of any of the above I mention here? Or am I just over-reacting? I need a reality check. I know he is a kind of low-key

kind of doc, and is not an alarmist...I dunno...thanks

love you all, kate

I do get them but not that bad, what I've been having is something strange, this very short dizzy spell (the head-rush thing) when I lie down or stand up. I don't think you are being an alarmist, I think your Neuro needs to educate himself and read those darn mags he must subscribe to (the medical journals, ya know?) and not just use them for fish-wrapping. If I went on week without having at least 3 migraines, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Believe me when I tell you, I practically(sp) live on Asprin, Advil, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc, etc...I take them so often that I have to make sure I switch them up, or else they just lose their effect. I started getting migraines about 5 years before I was dx.'d with MS. I get really really nauseated with them. I call them "sick headaches" Sometimes, they last for days.

Now, I know I'm probably preachin' to the choir, but if you're getting them that sever, you really shouldn't be driving. Serious. And if you've had a migraine for 10 days...I think it's time you go to the hospital or call you GP and make an appointment. Ten days is an awful long time and it may not be caused from MS at all. You need to get a Cat Scan.

As far as the Tysabri goes. I'm not sure what to say about your Dr.'s reaction. Maybe he wants you to stay on it, because he's aware of the rebound effects and he doesn't want it happening to you.

I hope you get to feeling better real soon.

Love and blessings...Val

My Neuro would definitely be more concerned than yours seems to be. The problem with the headaches, from my neuro, is that if they are migraines, then they can cause lesions as well. When I had my first MRI, it showed several lesions that were dormant. My neuro said these were more likely to be caused by my migraines and not MS. So, as a precaution, he ordered a deeper set of MRI and not just of my head. He also ordered blood tests, eye tests, spinal tap.....I could go on. At first I felt like he was abusing my insurance. That is until the second set of MRI's with contrast. Boy did I have a bundle of glowing lesions on the brain and one significant one on my spine. Now I know he was concerned and didn't want to alarm me, although we had already discussed MS and even started the Rebif as a precaution. If it turned out that I didn't have MS, the Rebif wouldn't hurt me. Since then he has moved 65 miles away

to my hospital's sister clinic. And yes! I followed him! He's kinda hot too! LOL But married. Darn. I guess what I'm trying to say is do what your neuro says until YOU don't feel comfortable with him/her. Then find another that makes you comfortable. As far as the things that have happened, welcome to MS. I turn my left blinker on to go right. I forget where I'm going when I'm driving. I keep a cell phone fully charged at all times and in my purse (God help should I ever forget my purse somewhere!) I'll make a call and forget who I'm calling, even after they have answered. Sometimes I don't recognize the voice. Tonight my typing is good. Some days I think the back button is gonna overheat and quit working! Hang in there. If I can get through standing in the middle of the grocery store and not understand what I'm reading on the label of items on the shelf, then start crying

Tammy, I know this letter was not to me, but it helped me a lot. This list is helping know I a not actually loosing my mind. Some of the things you write here are happening to me. Especially like just not understanding things in the grocery store, forgetting what I am doing or calling and well, sticky notes are my best friend, lol.

stay the course, and keep with it...

Tammy, I know this letter was not to me, but it helped me a lot. This list is helping know I a not actually loosing my mind. Some of the things you write here are happening to me. Especially like just not understanding things in the grocery store, forgetting what I am doing or calling and well, sticky notes are my best friend, lol.

Re: headaches

Since then he has moved 65 miles away to my hospital's sister clinic. If I can get through standing in the middle of the grocery store and not understand what I'm reading on the label of items on the shelf, then start crying cause I feel so lost, so can you! I think I've cried more today than ever before. I have tears welling just telling you these things. You can post, ask, say, advise, anything here. I learned more with this group than any web site or book could tell me. Everyone here is compasionate and understanding. My second family! Ok, I'm rambling and my cat is patiently waiting for me to brush him. He is persian and picky! Hope this helps. Knowing I wasn't alone was the biggest help for me and got that from everyone on this group!

I am not having headaches, and when I was in the middle of this last episode I DID have them and they seemed to make my eyes hurt. What I did was lay down flat, get the room quite and put a dry wash cloth over my eyes until they went away. They never lasted more than 1/2 hour or so, not like yours. I hope you get to feeling better right away. Maybe you best not drive for awhile if you can help it. I stopped driving for about four weeks because I couldn't control my right foot at all and I was so confused much of the time.

Kate,

I must have missed the original post. PLEASE go to the dr or ER. Our daughter has gotten migraines since she was in her early teens and has never had one last more that a few days. You are in my prayers.

The nausea is almost constant, however, the headaches, even though it's been 10-12 days since they began, are

surely not CONSTANT. I do find my eyes are real sensitive to the light, and my eyes kind of hurt. My neuro doesn't

seem concerned. Would you call your primary doc? thanks for writing
