Hello,

Just wondering if anyone had read the book The Maker's Diet? I was

wondering what similarities there are to the SCD, if any. I have

read that the man who wrote it had Crohn's Disease, and it is

supposed to be Biblically based. Thanks!!

Hi,

Yes, I recently read the book. There are some similarities, but lots of

differences. A worthwhile book to read if you like to get multiple

opinions, insights, etc. He also recommends yogurt but he recommends it

without the S. thermophilus in it. I find it interesting that Elaine

wants it without the Bifidus and he wants it without the S.

thermophilus. He also recommends the longer fermentation time for the

yogurt but I don't recall any discussion of lactose issues, just that he

said it was easier to digest or had more beneficial bacteria? Also, he

allows grains - big difference from SCD. That's all I remember off the

top of my head.

For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book

_Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the

following websites:

Hi!

I haven't read this book, but I have read his previous work,

brochures, etc. He talks about how taking what is in his soil-based

probiotics helped him recover from Crohn's disease, but reading

between the lines, it appears that he could have also have been on

the SCD. I remember seeing Elaine's book listed in his previous

work. Although some people have said that he was on the diet, I have

never seen anything of his denying that he was not on the SCD diet

when he healed.

If my son ever goes off of SCD, (after many years to heal), I

probably will try either the Maker's Diet or something similar. I

probably will never have my son go on his regimen's using his many

products.

I believe that Elaine said something in the past about the

commercialism of this author's products. He offers many " special "

supplements and we really need to be careful about what and how many

we give our kids.

I believe that his product Primal Defense is not " legal " for SCD.

It has many ingredients and strains of probiotics. In his brochures,

it says that an autistic child who's mother was a doctor greatly

improved from taking this product. In a later posting of hers (the

mother), I read that she recommended every autistic child take a good

probiotic, but she didn't seem particularly loyal to Primal Defense.

My son has been on primal defense and had no problems with it. I have

read some other postings on other sights recently where they say that

they have.

Best wishes, Charla

Grains are not permitted on SCD. primal defense is illegal and that is explained

in a previous post.

I do not wish to offend anyone else but suggest reviewing the diet in BTVC and

the two web sites.

Also please review the list guidelines

" Discussions and advertising of alternative diets, illegal foods, treatments

that are not recommended, or other subjects that are not part of the science

and practices of SCD are not allowed on the list. "

Although we try to give wide latitude in discussion topics here despite the

above, grain and soaking grain is out of the question as not only are their

bad starches, but soaking can foster bacteria and mold.

This is not meant to offend or alienate, but we must not confuse new members

or give the mistaken information that grain has any place on SCD.

In good spirit,
