Guest guest
I traveled to North Carolina from Northern Michigan for my surgery. I had no particular problems attributable to being a foreigner. I would recommend that at least one person (preferably spouse) plan on staying with you for the duration. Two support folks are better, though, as they can keep each other company during the hours of paralyzing boredom. I had surgery on a Friday afternoon, and I flew home the 8 days later on saturday. My wife was there the whole time; my oldest son was there from Friday through Tuesday. Please note that I was fortunate enough to be ready to leave the hospital 24 hours post op, but Dr. R (wisely) wouldn't let me go until late Sunday , about 48 hours post op. Instead of sitting in our hotel, we hit the sites of the region, including a full day trip up to Appomatox, Virginia, and another full-day trip west of Durham on all county roads. We also did the Duke gardens, had dinner (I should say my wife had dinner) in Chapel Hill. I strongly recommend getting a " suite " hotel with a separate bedroom. I am not a good sleeper, and was very restless that first week; with two rooms my wife could actually get some sleep. We found such a hotel for $55/night, which is dirt cheap even by southern standards. Their are dozens of such hotels in the greater Triangle area, and most provide transportation to Durham regional. You are better off if you have a car (it's tax deductable).

Guest guest
Hey I just saw your post on the Obesityhelp site. Let me know if you get the names of any other insurances which could be bought for addiitonal coverage. I emailed Dr R about the same question but haven't got a response yet. Have you approached your ins co yet?? Have you went to appeals? Just because your ins says no coverage does not mean that you can not aappeal and win!! This is considered discrimination. Look at Dr R's website and you will see several topics pertaining to this problem. Also, I was initially denied based on " not covered benefit " . I found a FEDERAL book of insurance coverage for the same company as mine (Kaiser Permente for federal employees). It had different wording and I used this in my appeal. I won that appeal quite easily. If you want to email me personally, I'd be glad to giive you more details.
