Good afternoon, all, My son has visual stims when he gets excited. The stims are rubbing the thumb against each fingers beginning with the pinkie up to the index finger and repeating. For example, he stims when we are at the aquarium and he sees a school of fish or bubbles in the aquarium. Also, he stims when we play at the water fountain and he sees the water droplets form rings on the still water. We have the yeast under control, have address all but two viral issues (Herpes Zoster and Rubella are the last two), and has heavy metal issues (mainly mercury and arsenic per the French Tests). We did the Vitamin A protocol and are currently giving 15,000 to 20,000IU Vitamin A a day. Our main issue with my son is expressive language. However, if I can address the visual stims in the meantime, that would be great. Any suggestions for treatments? Supplements or herbs? Vision Therapy or Prism Lenses? Thank you in advance. Guest guest
Just amazing the jolly rancher thing. :-) I would love to be able to convince one of my many friends to do something so simple and have a breakthrough like that! No wonder McCarthy is such a " warrior " ya know you see something so cool, you want to tell the world about it. Too bad the world likes to mock. :-( I felt the same way when I read the MTHFR mutation stuff... just need the medical assistance/guidance with the supps. Made me feel like my pregnancy losses were " for a reason " because had it not been for the losses, I would not have successfully persuaded my fertility doc to test for the MTHFR mutation. If learning about the mutation helps my kids, it makes the last two years not seem like a waste. 0:-) Toni,It's interesting, b/c I have the genetic link that she talks about--- which is why her therapy made sense to me -- (The pituitary adenoma and the night blindness). Guest guest
MTHFR mutation causes one to not process some vitamins properly, making them " poor methylators. " Also, causes clotting disorders and high levels of homocysteine. You could ask your general practitioner to test your homocysteine levels as part of cholesterol testing... if it was high, you could have reason to ask for the MTHFR testing. It is more expensive I guess and takes longer, so you are not going to convince a doc to write up the lab for just any reason... if you had anemia, or documented low B12 levels, I guess they would test it too??? Maybe knows? I had it done thru fertility testing because of the two losses... usually a fertility doctor will not test for MTHFR and other genetic anomalies until you have three failed pregnancies :-( So I was " lucky " that he did run the test... however he " blew off " the result as no big deal, just take some extra folic acid. I only thought it affected my clotting and pregnancy, did not know it would cause metabolic problems and neurological problems as well... or be a possible genetic link to autism. Didn't even know that I needed to add extra b12 or b6... In 2007 I had anemia and the guy who had the blood drawn (allergist) didn't bother telling me until the followup appt a year later (!!!) I am just assuming I've passed it on to my kids, however... just because we have a lot of neurologically odd people in both sides of the family tree.I think the people on here have mentioned Dr. Yasko in reference to MTHFR / methylation protocols??? what is the MTHFR mutations? Also, how do you test for the hyperparathyrodism (sp?)? Guest guest
Good morning, all, Thank you for all the great information. I will need to read. Regarding the MTHFR mutation, the Yasko test can test for that mutation and others. Here are some links. http://www.dramyyasko.com/ http://www.dramyyasko.com/dr-amys-message/ http://www.knowyourgenetics.com/The%20Methylation%20Pathway.html Here are good pictures/diagrams of some of the cycles and the interdependencies. http://www.dramyyasko.com/methylation-diagrams/ For my son, it took about two months to get the test results. We went to the doctor's office and my son's finger was pricked for the needed blood sample. We are reviewing his tests this week. We needed to know this information to tailor treatments to increase his glutathione levels. We did the MB-12 shots and NAC but did not see the increase of glutathione like we had hoped. Hope this helps.
Guest guest
Anyone tried the urecholine/bethenacol (sp?)? I have always suspected that Vit A is one of the big keys for my son - but I find it odd that he has responded sooo well to the High-dose Vit A treatment - that uses A palmitate. Maybe it makes it better for a short time and then makes things worse? Guest guest
Hm -maybe you should should reduce the dose for a while and see how it goes. Too much vitaminA can mess with the liver(which your son needs to be as healthy as possible) and can also affect the central nervous system (though I'm not sure exactly how). Don't forget to count in the vitamin a he gets through food when trying to calculate dosing. To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, April 20, 2010 12:08:30 PMSubject: RE: Visual Stimming: How to reduce? Guest guest
We only do High dose vit A once every 6 months - we've done it twice so far. He gets 5,000 IUs a day every day, and 25,000 IUs if sick with a virus. How do you dose less than 5,000? We do one tsp of CLO and that is how much is in it. I have actually considered upping the CLO recently as I believe we are having inflammation problems. My question was more based on Megson's research about palmitate. Thanks for the response though. To: mb12 valtrex From: t.lynn28@...Date: Tue, 20 Apr 2010 09:45:56 -0700Subject: Re: Visual Stimming: How to reduce? Guest guest
Here's a handy chart to hold on to. It shows how high you can go before you hit levels that may have negative consequence. If anybody knows of any chart or resource that shows how vites and supps can conteract one another, I'd love to have the link. http://www.wdxcyber.com/ngen21.htm To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Tue, April 20, 2010 12:08:30 PMSubject: RE: Visual Stimming: How to reduce? Also, he stims when we play at the water fountainand he sees the water droplets form rings on the still water. We have the yeast under control, have address all but two viral issues (HerpesZoster and Rubella are the last two), and has heavy metal issues (mainly mercuryand arsenic per the French Tests). We did the Vitamin A protocol and are currently giving 15,000 to 20,000IUVitamin A a day.Our main issue with my son is expressive language. However, if I can addressthe visual stims in the meantime, that would be great.Any suggestions for treatments? Supplements or herbs? Vision Therapy or PrismLenses?Thank you in advance.Jerry -- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. Guest guest
oooooo....I see. Sorry. Wish I could help. Anyone tried the urecholine/bethenac ol (sp?)? I have always suspected that Vit A is one of the big keys for my son - but I find it odd that he has responded sooo well to the High-dose Vit A treatment - that uses A palmitate. Maybe it makes it better for a short time and then makes things worse? Also, Anyone use Dr. Megson? Toni, It's interesting, b/c I have the genetic link that she talks about--- which is why her therapy made sense to me -- (The pituitary adenoma and the night blindness).
