,

I just finished your book. It was terrific! Now if we could just get every

MD in the world to read it!

I must have missed something in it tho, you mentioned that you are hesitant

to chelate any child with issues of yeast, clostridia. What then do you end

up doing? I was under the impression you treated those first & then chelated

with ALA/DMSA. Did I misunderstand something?

Hope you are enjoying your vacation and your lovely granddaughter.

Hi , thank you so much for taking the time to send this. Yes

there is a lot of speculation. I am in the UK and run a group there.

Several perople have had recent visits to Amy Holmes and have been

discussing the approach with the MT promoter. Others of us have been

listening but are still favouring DMSA. I do not see compelling reasons to

change for my son. I am getting good progress. Yeast has been a problem,

but not as far as I know gut bugs, although it is near impossible to get

docs to test our children here and facilities are abysmal. I have been

interested in the GSE approach (+No-Fenol) to deal with yeast and have

decided to try that. Nystatin has achieved some control but not sufficient.

Is there a definite point at which you stop DMSA? You say " a child with NO

evidence of gut bugs " is still a candidate for DMSA, I was wondering if you

could qualify/quantify? that a little bit more. I am also interested in the

success you are having with the MT promoter approach. I hope you don't

mind all these questions.

Hi, Celia: I'm on retreat in HI (with Chelsey and my

husband) with an old laptop which for some mysterious

reason (to a technoidiot like me) will not let me

send " as e-mails. " I wrote Amy Holmes to ask about

rumors that she was no longer using DMSA, and she gave

me permission to forward to the groups. I told her I

still use DMSA when there is no evidence of gut bugs

in a child who does have evidence of mercury toxicity,

but when gut bugs are there, use the nutritional

approach, including the MT Promoter work done at

Pfeiffer. She says she does the same thing, DMSA at

first, then MT promoter. She says she does not use

DMSA any more for kids who have persistent liver

enzyme elevation, particularly ALT, or in kids with

seizures. She did not explain further, but I presume

it is because of too many stresses upon the liver.

She did confirm that she is no longer taking new

patients because she is so far behind. Jaquelyn

Thanks. I did try to order the book but there wasn't a credit card link up.

I'll try again.

features indicated gut bugs and would stop and treat

them, causing long delays in my chelation program.

If you have gut bugs this will increase stimming? My son stimmed before

chelating and then seemed to get better, now he seems to be stimming more.

Could it be gut bugs? I think B vitamins my be affecting too, but could it be

also that he has gut bugs. Are there other things to look for? Also, I'm

wanting to know how you know if your kids has yeast.

Thanks,

Diane

Celia: I use the term " gut bugs " to include both

yeast and bacteria and of course other less common but

sometimes troublesome gut " critters " . In the past, I

would chelate until the stimming and regressive

features indicated gut bugs and would stop and treat

them, causing long delays in my chelation program.

Now, if I evaluate children who already are having

yeast or clostridia even before chelating, I am

hesitant to even start with DMSA and ALA, which

definitely seem to encourage bugs both by directly

feeding them and by further inflammation of the gut by

mercury being excreted via the gi tract. Please read

my book for further details of gut issues and

treatments, see www.Autism-RxGuideBook.net. I have

not used MT Promoter long enough to make a statement

yet, but Amy seems to be having good effects from it,

particularly in the younger kids (as usual!). Jaquelyn

Michele: Thanks! It must not have been clear; I

always treat the bugs and go back to chelation, but if

they persist after several tries on everything

imaginable, then I start looking for alternatives to

DMSA/ALA, and use several including the Pfeiffer MT-

promoter program (just starting.) I found that the

regression in severe gut infestations was preventing

the chelation from being effective anymore, and would

watch gains disappear, so have had no choice but to

reconnoiter. I have a few other things I'm doing now

which I will share when I have a little more

experience with them. Best wishes on your healing

endeavors, Jaquelyn

Diane: In my experience, many things may cause

stimming, but the most frequent is the overgrowth of

gut bugs. One of the most valuable tests in my

armamentarium is the organix test by Meta-Metrix,

which not only tells you if your child has yeast or

clostridia, but a lot of other good information.

Great Plains does an organic acid test too, and they

do get their results back faster, but with not quite

as much information as I get from MM. Jaquelyn
