Alice-I just purchased a 2nd crockpot for myself last month as mine is a BIG 6 quart and we dont always need that big of one and its awkward to take to work for carry ins. My new crockpot is 4.5 quarts, with a removable crock insert (makes it great for washing/serving) and it came with a free carry cover. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $24 its a GE white Model number 106661 with leaves/berries on it. I just love it and the size is good! Here's the url for it at Wal-Mart online:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?cat=4829 & product_id=881824 & type=1 & path=0:4044:4064:55320:4829 & dept=4044

Hope this helps!

OT- Crockpot

Hi and Happy Belated Thanksgiving all- Hope it was an easy losing one for allI need some help and advice re "crockpot". I know a while back mentioned something about type to buy etc. I honestly do not know anything about them. Some of the recipes everyone is sending looks wonderful. I am going for arthroscopic knee surgery next month, and honestly thought it might be a good idea to think about buying one. My husband had one many many years ago, and he said it cooked wonderful. but was a pain to clean because you couldnt submerge it in water. So I guess what I would like to know is- Are they still difficult to clean or can you take out the part you cook in to wash in sink or dishwasher? I appreciate all help as unfortunately I am unable to go to stores and walk around to look at because of knee, and husband is disabled, so he doesn't go anywhere without me.Sorry to be so longwinded. As I always say, isn't it great that I don't write often.Welcome to all our new members- this is a great group as you all see, and congrats to all the losers, and to those struggling, start fresh tomorrow.Alice NY

Hi Alice,

I love my crockpots! I have 3 of them, (all different sizes) that I use all

the time. With the removable crock all I do is put it in the dishwasher to

wash it. The removable crocks make all the difference! I could live

without my microwave, but no way could I live without my crockpots!

Thanks so much for the info and taking the trouble to get and send

the link. I checked it out and it looks great. Hope it comes with

good instructions and hoping it will make me a better cook :-)

As there is no Walmart close by, I will most probably order online

(guess its time I tried that luxury)

Thank you for also responding. Everyone seems to speak so highly of

them that I decided to check it out, especially now. As of now, I

would be lost without my microwave, and my Forman grill, but

actually I am looking forward to getting a crockpot, learning how to

use it, and making some good meals. As I know now that there are

removables, it will be an early Holiday present to myself.

I will have to settle for only one, as room is becoming an issue in

my kitchen.

Before you order, I thought I would mention that some of the have

three settings instead of two which will allow you to cook for a

longer time which is great for meat tenderness. There are also ones

that give you a dial now and you set the exact temperature you

prefer. I think this a really great and handy feature. Then, there

are ones that you could transfer to the oven for quick browning after

the dish is cooked which is the feature I really prefer most of all.

My mom has one like this and it is really wonderful.

I hope this helps you on your search. I think she got it at Wal-

Mart, too, I am pretty sure. If not, I am sure you will find it on

the net.

Good luck,

Hi Alice!!

I have two crockpots and I just couldn't make it without them!! They are both by Rival with removable inserts. My first one is an 8qt combo crockpot/deep fryer. I like it alright but the dial is made for higher heat cooking. My second one - Rick gave it to me the day before Thanksgiving!! - is a 6.5qt Smart Pot. It's digital and you can program by the half hour to cook on high or low or warm. Once the cooking is done it automatically shifts to warm for 2 hours before it shuts off. I know these are large, but we are a family of 7 so I need the big ones - LOL!!

Let us know which crockpot you choose!!
