Hi everyone!!

I have been trying to read all of my 375 emails from just over a few days and I am finding my eyes getting blurry!!!

A lot of you knew about my nephew that was killed in a drunk driving accident last summer. The guy that was driving was sentenced on Friday, January 18th to 2 1/2 years in jail with 1 1/2 suspended. He will receive 5 years probation, 500 hours of community service, 10 years no license, and random drug and alcohol testing. My brother and his wife and remaining son are still so consumed with grief that they are barely able to funtion on a daily basis. Their other son attempted suicide this week and now they are all on anti-depressants and going to counseling. All three of them talk openly about suicide on a regular basis. This has left the family very nervous and I am really afraid to answer the phone for fear of bad news. We have all recommended support groups but they don't seem interested. We just keep praying and telling them how much we love them and hope that our prayers will be answered and that they find peace here on earth and can find the strength to go on.

Kylie has a swim meet this weekend. They are always 2 day events. Today was supposed to be 80 degrees (I swear that that is what the weather report said), so the swim meet being outside, I decided to wear shorts (very funny with my albino legs-not so bad if you don't look directly at them). Only problem is, it was about 69 degrees in Yucaipa and very WINDY!!! Needless to say, I froze. But, being the good mom that I am, I told Kylie NOT to take her swimming parka, after all, it will be 80 degrees today. OK, so I still feel bad. She had to sit in a wet bathing suit with a wet towel in wet pants!!!! Good thing the meet went fast and she improved 3 of the 4 events she swam today. Tomorrow I am sending my hubby.

Kylie will be 12 on Wednsday. Her and I have gone to breakfast every year on her bday since she was 1 year old-by ourselves. This year, we have to break tradition and go tomorrow. I really can't wait. We don't get much time alone together since baby boy came around 3 1/2 years ago!!!

Baby boy aka Brody, is in potty training he$ & right now. Some days he gets it, some days he don't!!! Thank the lord for pullups!!!

My hubby is working extra long hours lately. He wants to be promoted again so he spends a lot of time there. I think it keeps us close!! haha

I saw my doctor last Friday. He started me on a new to me drug called cellcept. I was not responding to steroids after a long time and the mtx was making me really sick, so I have basically been without meds for approx. 7-8 months while fighting this chronic bronchitis. I started the cellcept on Monday. The only side effects I have had have been severe fatigue and drowsiness. I have been sleeping a lot this week!!! I hope this works because I cannot lift my leg to go up one step on my step stool. I am also back on only 10 mg of pred, claritin, fosomax, and previced for stomach upselt. The swim meet today, I had to go up 3 steps to our seats. Thank God for hand rails and my cane. It still seemed like it took me forever and it felt like everyone was staring. Don't you just want to scream?????

Did anyone watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics??? It was beautiful.

Everyone take care.....I am trying really hard to get through all this mail.

Lynn,

Him and his family have joined MADD and they also had pictures of their son laminated with a 1 800 number on the back to call for a ride if they have been drinking. The number is a number that my brother set up at his own home. They handed them out to the 500 people that attended the memerial service. In all reality though, I don't think any of the kids would ever call. Even after all of that, some kids just don't get it and still think it can't happen to them. They are also trying to get stiffer laws passed for drunk driving. I hope it works but, like I said people don't learn even when it hits home sometimes. I don't know if you remember but the kid that was driving actually had his lawyer ask if his probation could be as short as 2 years instead of 5 because he will then be 21 and would like to legally drink and buy alcohol. Takes all kinds, doesn't it??? He was supposed to have been his best friend.

Oh, my brother had also set up a scholarship fund at his high school (he had just graduated the month before) and had earned a spot to train with the Boston Bruins junior hockey team. He was very athletic. My brother and his wife get to help chose the student every year that receives the money. Now that the trial is over, I was hoping that things would improve for them but it seems to have done the reverse. We just keep praying and praying.

Thanks,

Zanna

Dearest Zanna,

Words fail me...I feel so badly for your brother...for

your whole family. The legal system seems to have

failed here. All I can do is add my prayers for your

family, to get them past this tragedy and turn it into

something positive. I remember your saying your

brother is involved in a drunk driving prevention

campaign, wasn't that it? I hope that gives some

solace. It's so hard!

Congrats to Kylie at the swim meet! And sounds like

you two will make a new tradition for her birthday!

Cool Beans!
