Guest guest
I am somewhat interested. We are currently awaiting a survey to become a rehab agency. We were granted an exemption. Jen , PT Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device from U.S. Cellular Rehab Agency Survey & Certification Announcement CMS has provided deemed status to various accreditation agencies for certain provider classifications in the Medicare survey and certification process. This has been particularly helpful to new providers in obtaining Medicare certification in areas where CMS has given low priority (and henceforth no funding) for survey activity. Home health agencies and ambulatory survey facilities have various accrediting bodies that have been approved by CMS - therefore their accreditation survey will provide deemed status for Medicare certification. Rehab Agencies have been listed as a CMS Tier 4 priority (the lowest level) for the past few years, and virtually few rehab agencies have received an initial survey, unless an exception was allowed for extenuating circumstances by the state agency. Up until now there has been no accrediting body that has been approved by CMS to offer deemed status upon accreditation. CMS has requested the accrediting body for ambulatory surgery to establish a program to accredit Rehab Agencies. This group has been working with the National Association of Rehab Agencies (NARA) in developing an accreditation program and training surveyors (inspectors) for the accreditation process. Several NARA members with extensive Rehab Agency experience have been serving as subject matter experts and will assist in training surveyors (inspectors) for rehab agencies next month. I am one of four individuals working on this accreditation process. I am interested in contact with any listserve members (must be PT, OT or SLP) that have an interest in being a surveyor. Previous rehab agency experience is a plus, but not a necessity. The training will be in early August. Please contact me directly for further details via email or phone as listed below. Thank You. Guest guest
Hi Jen It was a miracle that you were granted an exemption - that is the whole reason for this process! The training is August 8th in Chicago at a hotel near O'Hare. You will be reimbursed for airfare, hotel stay the evening of August 7th, and incidental travel expenses. I will have them email you a packet of information right away. It is important that you complete the information immediately and get it returned per the instructions. They are hoping to train 30-40 surveyors (inspectors) at this session. They are looking for a cross country selection, so that surveyors can be assigned in close geographical proximity to those potential rehab agencies. I have no idea how many surveys this would entail annually, and those completing the training are not required to take every survey they are offered. There will a $500 honorarium for each survey, plus reasonable expenses reimbursed. Quite frankly, I think this is an interesting opportunity for those who choose to become surveyors! Guest guest
Thanks to all that replied, the response was overwhelming, and I certainly enjoyed catching up with old friends from past jobs and consulting engagements who also inquired. I have been advised that a critical mass has been reached in the " surveyor " application process and the pipeline is full at this time. I will continue to post information about the entire rehab agency NEW accreditation process as it unfolds next month.
