hi Joi,

What does PT mean?

I just love the image I get of your birds, I love birds myself.

I also was just mentioning to my guy last nite how I need exercise and how I

could

manage to get some.  I can't be upright and do anything because of the pressure

on nerves

in my lower back.  So I was thinking of maybe laying down using hand weights to

build up my

upper body.   Just an idea I had.  I enjoy sweets so much and yet don't want to

get too out of shape.

I don't think I can do anything about my belly fat because of my back.  I don't

have alot but it's there.

I have to wear sweat pants all the time because my back is so sensitive to any

pressure.  So I look

sloppy most of the time I guess, but I do try to dress sweats and a tshirt up

with jewelry and a little makeup! :)

Yes, it is hard for us painers to get proper exercise isn't it?

thank you, Coleen :-)

ps. you do have some big birds don't you?  I love them!

I use one at PT and even with my near constant low back pain; it does NOT

hurt to use it. I've considered getting one too, but my knees and hips do

hurt/get inflamed when I use it, so not sure.

RE: recumbent bike

Hi everyone,

First I'm sorry to hear there are some members with pain levels up; I pray

things will get better!

I was curious after Dave mentioned the recumbent bike just how many people

have used one and what you though about it? I've been thinking about getting

one. I'm only 36 and can't walk down the block; I don't want my body to just

waste away plus I need some excercise. I have heard these bikes are easy on

bad backs.

Any help would be appreciated! Everyone have a great day!

Hugs,

I know God will not give me anything I

can't handle. I just wish He didn't

         trust me so much.

I'm sorry to hear you are in this much pain and can't get proper pain

medication. Until you can get properly medicated here are two things

you can try. One is Ice Packs. Today my Thoracic region and right

shoulder blade was killing me. I sat in my recliner with an ice pack

wrapped in a lightweight dish towel. I also meant to take my

afternoon pain meds a Vicoden and a muscle relaxer. Well after about

10-15 minutes the pain came down to a much more bearable level to the

point where I could take a nap. After I awoke I realized I never

took my meds. so the ice and relaxation alone did the job. Another

thing that works is exercise. Now I can hear you all saying Yeah

right. I went to PT about a week ago. I was in pain at about a level

7-8. I thought she would go easy on me. Instead she told me to try

the exercise bike and treadmill. Well at first for 5 minutes it hurt

more, but then it got easier. When I was done with 15 minutes on the

treadmill and 15 minutes on the recumbent bike my pain level had

dropped down to about a 3. She told me that it was because the

endorfins (sp?) kicked in from my mind. A runners high. She asked me

at my next appointment how long it lasted. I told her about 4 hours.

I really did work. But doing just a walk didn't cut it. You need to

get your heart rate up. In my case to around 115 BPM. So until you

can get proper meds these are worth a try. And I do understand the

alone and sad. you are depressed, maybe clinically depressed. I was

on several different anti-depressants over the years. Most work

until a point and then stop. Currently I'm on a new one called

Pristiq. It has really helped me. I was VERY depressed before the

change. It has really made a difference. Keep on posting. Dave

PT=Physical Therapy (or Therapist)

Thank you. I adore my birds and Papillons. I don't know what I'd do without

them.

Anytime you use your upper body you will burn more calories. A new study

(read this somewhere) said that if you walk for fitness, adding those

walking poles (one for each hand) will burn up to 70% more calories than not

using them. If you have ever gone cross country skiing, you'd know what I

mean.

I just posted to our local Freecycle group and asked for a recumbent bike

and got one within hours! It’s a REALLY nice one too!!! Gym quality. :)
