When you are DOWN to nothing... God is UP to something!

a book that might interest some of you

Hi all

I was just going through the online catalog from NLS of the most recently

recorded books and found this one that might interest some of you:

Cheating Destiny: Living with Diabetes, America's Biggest

Epidemic

RC 63807

by S. Hirsch

read by Bob

3 cassettes

Former New York Times reporter with type 1 diabetes

describes the social, economic, and scientific effects of

the disease. Traces the history of medical treatment, the

limitations of insulin therapy, and stem-cell research.

Discusses how the medical and insurance establishments can

impede the search for a cure. 2006.

I read this book (scanned it myself, since I'm in Canada) and it is fantastic.

If you have type 1 and/or children, or both, the prologue will make you cry! The

rest of the book is scathing, brutal, but also very true. This book also

addresses both type 1 and type 2, so would be of interest to everyone.

Do you know what year this was published?

No, and as I am a type 2, I probably will not get it. I was just going

through the July/August Talking Book Topics and thought I would post about

the book here for type 1's who might be interested.
