When my oldest was born, my best friend and her mother made one (as they both had time to work on it) for him.. the center of the square was variagate blue & pink, then white, then some more rows of the varigated.. the outside edge ended in white.. then them chained around several times making a scalloped typed edge.... It was great... So when anyone was having a baby, I'd do the same thing for them (sometimes using the green & yellow varigated). LOL When I was pregnant with (my first), an old friend of my Mom's made a baby quilt for him. The pieces for the quilt had been my Great-Grandmother's (my Mom's maternal Grandmother). In the bottom right corner, my Mom's friend stitched a heart and inside the heart she stitched "pieced by" with my Great-Grandmother's name, and then "stitched by" with her initials. I figure if she tells me what colors she'd like it in, and I start working on it now, that by the time she "gets" in the extended family way, and then gets through the 9 months, it should pretty well be completed by then... I'd never dream of doing what you're doing as a project.. if they counted on me.. they'd be popscicles.. But I think that I can get through just one more baby blanket.. The last one I finished.. ended up being a full size afghan.. using afghan stitch.. it was for my youngest.. bout 10 years ago.. He kept whining that I never made him a baby blanket of his very own.. but I made them for everyone else... So I made him one.. for the size baby he was then.. LOL... hey..
