HI ,

How awful for you to be sick every morning and to retain that much fluid in

your stomach. I assume you are seeing a GI doctor on those issues. Those

symptoms are not attributed to IgAN, but nonetheless must be very hard to live

with.

I'm not sure if stomach pain is due to IgAN. My son has some stomach

discomfort every now and then but his doctor said it is not because of his

IgA. Even his headache and leg cramps according to the doc is not due to

IgA. However, a lot of you in this condition seems to share the same

discomfort.....makes one think....

Hi !

Hey, reflux is a specialist subject in my house ... my wife had surgery for it 3

years ago! Erm ok not a specialist but we've been there :o) My wife never threw

up -- ever because of reflux but her life was a misery and she barely ate and

dropped her weight to below a hundred pounds and became depressed because she

had constant 24/7 " heartburn " as her stomach acid continually spilled! It was a

horrible time for her and I remember she had a acid monitor for 24 hourswhich

meant tubes inserted through her nose to her stomach - a horrible thing for her!

I She had keyhole surgery where they lifted part of her stomach up to create a

new valve but that's another story!!!

I feel for you if that's what you have, it's not a pleasant thing! Are they

medicating you?

Dave

Re: Stomach Pain in IgA

I wake up every morning and throw up. It's not much mostly stomach

acid and foam. I have been told it's reflux but it's been going on

every morning for almost 13 years. It feels like my stomach has

turned itself in-side-out in my belly. Now if it was reflux it would

also effect me at night and it doesn't.

I also retain all my fluid in my belly. I look like I am 9 months

pregnant with twins when it happens. It gets very hard and hurts

from the preassure.

Hi ,

I'd be careful of dumping too much blame on the IgAN (although it does

deserve a fair amount). There's a very understandable tendency to lay the

blame for all physical problems to the kidneys. I think when people are

first diagnosed, it is real easy to try to tie everything together - which

isn't always true. It is very true that as one approaches advanced renal

failure, many (not all) people feel like something the cat dragged in.

Generally however, stomach pain and leg cramps aren't an IgAN thing. The

headaches may be related to high blood pressure, so I'd be sure to keep an

eye on that. had very bad headaches the year before diagnosis -

which unfortunately both the doc and I both wrote off as migraines as they

were of very long duration and accompanied by nausea. Cleared right up,

however, after he started BP meds.

There are something that can probably be associated with IgAN - including a

whole host of other autoimmune disorders.

One thing to watch out for when you start pred is small injuries that don't

heal easily. had infected ingrown toenails that took almost a year

to heal (they're history now, fortunately!). I think kids are more

susceptable to this type of non-healing injury simply because they get more

knocked about than grownups.

OH Dave,

I wish your wife the best. Weighing 100 pounds at 5'4 " is too thin. When I

drop below 120 at 5'6 " I have had doctors ask me if I am anorexic and did I

need a referral to psychiatry for my " eating disorder " :-)

I really hope this next surgery can alleviate her symptoms completely so she

can feel better and gain some weight.

Thanks ,

I'm not sure I'm all that supportive of more surgery - for reflux they basically

take part of your stomach and lift it and wrap it to make a new valve -

therefore making it smaller - Ali's never felt comfortable eating any decent

amount of food to try and stretch it since it happened as it gives her pain, my

worry is it'll make it worse not better!!!! I'd prefer a drug alternative if it

were up to me!
