Guest guest
Chantelle, My girl friend is a secondary school teacher (almost class 10 or 11??), she did mark student homework late until 2am cause she teaches in HK(??). She couldn't possibly ever finish students' coursework earlier. Normally she gets up early at 6:30am and reports to school by 7:30am. She does have snacks on marking homework ... That is a normal people's life. See you can manage to READ and WRITE computer message in your way, you are so blessing that Chun Hei's mother (Apple) has even difficulty to communicate with all of you for her limited English capacity. In Hong Kong, we do not have any supporting community for Chargers. I am afraid we do not have any record for chargers at all. So far we only know Chun Hei has vision, hearing and feeding problems. We do not know what can we do now, as our local specialists know little about Charge Syndrome. Anyway, Apple finds hope in Jesus. After Chun Hei's case was reported, there have being so many different people responded to Apple, prayed for her family, advised and comforted her. Thank you for your trust to share your past experience with your family. It's uneasy but you has gone throught those happened. You're appreciated. Even being awake is so much more interesting and we should find so blessing for being awake after we have slept over 6-8 hours. So for next time You couldn't possibly ever sleep through the night, you can pray and read the Bible, maybe online. You will find peace in Him, or so boring that falls asleep soon - both!? Pray you can experience REJOICE in HIM. Shalom, befriender of HK chargers. ps May " the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. " (Numbers 6:25) --- Chantelle McLaren ¡G Hey its 2 am im awake cause im a charger adn I coulnt possibly ever sleep through the night, lol. Normaly I go back to bed but I was bored. Guest guest
Chantelle (or anyone else who knows), So what is it about adults/children with CHARGE and not sleeping through the night? We had thought this just happens because of 's blocked nose because of CA but obviously not as she was breathing OK last night and she was still awake for 2 hours between 1.30 and 3.30am. Now this would be OK if the exhaustion didn't catch up with her 48 hours later. We have had a few problems with school as a result. The other problem is that for the 2 or more hours she is awake, she giggles non-stop and LOUDLY so I can't sleep either (Simon and Elly amaze me and manage to sleep through it all). Around here, these sessions are now known as 's parties. She did stop the giggling last night when I went in and told her off but this doesn't usually stop her so she must have been ready to go back to sleep. Does anyone know what it is all about and why sleeping throught the night is a problem? Luckily, it does't happen every night, but I am intrigued to know the reason. Any bright ideas about what can help or the best way to handle it? Thanks Flo

Guest guest
Hello, is up at all hours, as well and I always say that is giving herself a party! It doesn't matter if she goes to bed at 9 or midnight she is still up at 3:30. If she wakes up and there is a hint of daylight she belives that it's time to be up for the day. has to sleep in the pitch dark and cocoons herself in her blankets, with them over her head. Sometimes, she will crawl back in bed with me and go back to sleep for a hour or two. , friend and caregiver to , CHARGE,

Guest guest
Hi Flo, sounds just like Jack although he does mostly go back to sleep once someone gets in beside him. If he doesn't go back to sleep quickly then that's him up for the night He still does not sleep through all night and wakes up at least once and he also won't go to sleep in his own bed. He falls asleep down stairs and has to be carried up to bed. I keep telling myself that we are going to be tough on him and make him go to bed and stay in bed but it just doesn't happen. I can just imagine trying to carry him up stairs when he's 16 Oh well it could be worse I suppose but I'm someone who needs to get their sleep and can't sleep when he's awake. Pity we don't live closer to each other as and Jack could have little parties together in the middle of the night Take care Elaine, mum to Elise (12yrs) & Jack (6yrs) CHaRGE Scotland

Guest guest
This subject is finny because my mother already called to let me know about Patty. Sometimes I get so frustrated that she is 19 years old and my mom still doesn't really understand Patty. The point of the call was to let me know about Patty's behavior. She was not happy that Patty went to bed at 10 but woke up at 2 and paced around the house. She went back to bed and was up before 7. My mother thought she was actually up because she was waiting for the rest of the family to get up. UGH. She has always done things like that and my mother thinks it is a behavioral problem. She wanted Patty to go back to bed and stay there till everyone else got up. Yea right, like that would ever be possible to happen. Guest guest
I am so glad (knock on wood) we have never really had sleeping issues with timmy. other than getting him to stay in bed when we first put him in--of course alot of that is he's going to bed at 7:30--because he's up at 6 to go to school. he NEEDS his sleep and when saturday comes, if he's had late nights he will sleep until 9 or 10. I feel for those of you not getting your sleep--I can't do it, I guess God really does know what you can handle, cause that is one thing I cannot do with out!!! have a great week everyone--it's a crazy one here again--two more weeks of school--oops, 3 more!! bonnie, prayers for your brother---great job going out to patty on her trip!!! I laughed so hard when I read the bathroom story!! maria Re: Re: midnight snacks? > This subject is finny because my mother already called to let me know about > Patty. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you all for the very helpful replies. If anything else, good to know I am not alone in being awake in the early hours because there is a party for one going on in the next room. Roll on the time when she can entertain herself without keeping everyone else awake. We did try to put her in our bed for a while but she just giggled through for her desired time. A mother of a 10 year old child tells me he now reads quietly when he wakes up in the middle of the night. Obviously he can handle the next day now he is older. He is at the same school as and it does not appear that they recall worn out times with him, unless it is selective memory, but I must not be unfair as they have done fantastic things with our little party animal. , I am truly jealous that you have not had the sleep challenge. I have to admit I was always one to need my sleep desperately and I still do get to a point of not being able to function if too many broken nights. Last week, one of my poor clients (I work in mental health) was telling me a pretty sad story about her psychiatric history but my entire attention was focused on the major effort of trying to keep my eyes open. I used up so much energy that one hour to ensure she did not go off feeling worse than before she came to see me. Thank you ! Elaine, sorry but I did burst out laughing at the notion of you carrying Jack upstairs when he is 16! I had thought we would have the same problem. We used to pat to sleep downstairs and carry her up, then we just decided to put her in bed (luckily she was still in a cot so she could not escape) but still had to pat her to sleep when she was ready. We both had pretty painful wrists (RSI!) from this fun activity. Earlier this year, my wrist got so painful that I got concerned that as I get older I may be unable to sign to the little monster if this became a chronic problem, so I decided that my mission for the summer holidays would be to train her to send herself to sleep. Well, she must have twigged because a few weeks later, she was sending herself to sleep. We do still need to pat her to sleep very occassionally when she is overtired, but life is so much easier, plus Elly can get to sleep without her sister bawling because she needs to be patted to sleep. (Funny little anecdote: little Elly, age 22 months, now pats her dolls to sleep and anounces " patting " . Wonder where she got that from?). Now back the the waking problem, is to some extent aware of things she should not be doing when she is awake. If she is mid bouncing on her bed (always accompanied by loud giggling)and I go in to her room, soon as she sees me, she scrambles back to her sleep position and pretends to be asleep, only the occassional giggle giving her away. Of course as soon as I leave the room it all starts again. I think I may try Elaine's idea of getting into bed with her and see how it pans out. At least we may all get some sleep. Well, need to do one more post and get to bed early as we had some CA related night-time disturbance last night - the night after party night. Curses to the patron of blocked and runny choanal atresia noses! Yours in wakeful nights....... Flo

Guest guest
Bonnie, I can relate. My cHARGEr 19 is up and down at night just like Patty. She started this in her teens. I didn't ask but I bet she did it at college too. Also my non-CHARGE, 25 year old has done this for many years. I just turn over and go back to sleep. In the real world not everyone sleeps all night. I have been know to get up and do things in the middle of the night if I have a sleepless time in the wee hours. No matter what it is, on this list no one is ever alone.
