Guest guest
I hope this isn't too long but all of you won't believe what was told to me at the doctor's office today. As you all know, I have been " fighting " Kaiser for approval. I have been hitting at every level including numerous docotr visits in the past few months. The nurses have come to know me well and are very supportive as is my doctor. But other doctors are not as supportive. When I walked in today, three of the nurses started clapping and congratulating me on my win with the appeal. While I was chatting with one nurse privately in the room, she told me in confidence that I had been the talk of the office over the past few weeks. Also some of the not so supportive doctors had made comments like " SHE NEEDS TO PUSH AWAY FROM THE TABLE " and 'IF SHE WOULD MOVE A LITTLE, HER ASS WOULDN'T BE SO HUGE " etc. I can't believe that educated professionals are setting around talking about people that way. It is driving me crazy. I opted not to say anything directly to the doctors in question because I don't want to get the nice nurse in trouble. What do you think. It is so hard to keep my mouth shut. Please give me some advice. Thanks for being here. Kathy Kaiser Permente
Guest guest
Kathy, I am so sorry this has happened, but I have to say that I am not surprised. My PCP has been my doctor ever since I was little because my aunt worked for him. I have spent many a day sitting in the office chatting with the doctors and nurses and they always have comments to make about the patients. I have also dealt with too many doctors who think they are God and that their oppinion is the " ONLY " oppinion. Naturally, a doctor who does not agree with WLS - especially one who has never dealt with obesity personally - is gonna condemn a patient who stands up for their rights. I will never understand why someone who went to medical school and took an oath to help people would not support our efforts to get well, by ANY means available. Do these doctors not read the medical journals? We have enough trouble proving our case to the stupid insurance company - it is so sad that we have to fight the doctors too. I am proud of you for the steadfast efforts you have put forth in battling with your insurance company. Who cares about those stupid jerks? You are going to get better and enjoy the rest of your wonderful life - and they will still be caught up in their own little discrimanatory, self-centered worlds! Good for you! Guest guest
This made me remember somthing I went through back in January. I have chronic ovarian cysts and in January, I had one rupture. I often develp an infection after they rupture and am very familiar with the signs. I knew that I was developing an infection and was beginning to get uncomfortable, so I visited an urgent care center one evening, in order to avoid a later visit to the ER. While I was being examined (Pelvic), I asked the Dr. if he could feel the cyst - and he replyed " I don't know - You are a little too big for my OB skills " Needless to say, I was horrifed and felt like could just cry right there in front of him and his nurses. Now this doctor said this IN FRONT of me - I can only imaginge what he said when I was not around. So, anyway, My blood work did show an infection so I got the antibiotics that I needed. My point is that there are probably a LOT of doctors like him and worse! I feel your pain! Guest guest
Tara Lynn...it's a shame the urgent care clinic could not obtain a SKILLED PHYSICIAN instead of Doc Dumb from Gotmyheadtoofarupuknowwheresville! Again, sorry everyone. I guess I'm achieving multiple-sarcasm today! Re: YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS > > >This made me remember somthing I went through back in >January. Guest guest
OH KAthy! I just want to scream for you! Unfortunantly my hubby is in the medical field (not a Dr. so don't throw anything!) but those Dr. are human and still think they know everything. My nature would be a few snide remarks of my own, not direct confrontation! Cause I am a big nasty ... well you know when something so rude is done. I can rember in stores with my mom people saying stuff-I would just lose it. BUt in reality-let it go...you will be " pardon the expression " the bigger person, they don't know you, and they obviously aren't very proffesional. What goes around comes around! Don't waste the negative energy! Positive breeds positive! Take Care.
