Connie--does the hyperenxtending of your knee happen all the time or while you are sleeping?

It happens only when I straighten the leg, in standing, don't notice it when I'm sleeping unless I turn it the wrong way somehow, I got fitted for the brace today, major ouch! $1050.00

What type of knee brace are they having you wear? My knees hurt a lot as I figure my leg gait puts bad pressure on the knees. My neuro is having me go for physical therapy to help teach to walk with less pressure on the knees. For now, I'm wearing a simple knee brace to try and keep the knees straight when walking and doing exercise. It seems to help.

Major ouch indeed! Did insurance cover any of it? I went to the Dr a few days ago, I now am wearing an air cast on that leg (the right one). It hurts a bit but I can actually walk without the walker again. She said I have "weak ligaments" Duh! They took a ton of blood for testing, I haven't heard back yet so I am assuming all my levels were normal... It's called a DonJoy defiance custom brace. I've had a couple of knee braces but none that will stop hyperextending the knee. It's called a DonJoy defiance custom brace. I've had a couple of knee braces but none that will stop hyperextending the knee. The doctor said it was secondary to MS, probably like yourself in a way, I'm dealing with the spasticity and stiffness in the leg, am doing exercises with physio but need further help on it with the brace.

I have that happen sometimes, very frustrating! But that is good news about the insurance! Yikes! Did you have to pay all of that Connie? Terrible. How does the brace feel? Are you supposed to wear the brace all the time?

Sometimes I wake up and my legs are flexed out straight with my knees "locked". So that's why I was wondering.

Hubby's benefits from work cover about 75-80% of it, thank goodness! I don't get the brace until next week, and yes wear it all the time:(
