Guest guest
Kathy- I believe it is true, and I think Dr Rutledge would back it up, that members of the medical profession can be some of the most unreasonable and heartless when it comes to dealing with obesity. I don't understand it, except that being obese makes lots of medical procedures more complicated. Just being comfortable in a bed or on a gurney or getting onto the operating table, or moving around an unconscious body are all more difficult. That doesn't make it right, it may just explain some of it. What's really unfortunate about it is that there is very little training on obesity in medical school. But there is good research out there about genetic causes of obesity that could be of value to doctors. Dr R has any number of studies referenced on his web page. It seems to be one of the last bastions of sanctioned prejudice in our society. All the more reason for us to fight it. You hang in there, Kathy. You've won your fight and the medical folks working with you are on your side, too. Don't waste your energy on uncaring doctors who only see patients as objects, not human beings with real feelings.
