In remembering the no glove era, remember when gloves were latex and the

whole world didn't have a latex allergy? Do they even make latex gloves anymore?

We used to carry test strips as a back-up when the fancy,

computer-cybernetic glucometer takes a powder...

How about before we even had chem strips and had to rely on knowing the

difference between insulin shock and DKA.

Boy that brings back memories. I remember not only the cravat ankle hitch,

(which I can still do) but the old compress pads with the firm bandage rolls

that were not even near as easy to use as Kerlix.

We used to tie off our dressings by cutting long ways into the bandage roll

and then tying it off with the knot over the wound site to add pressure.

(Adhesive tape? We don't need no stinking adhesive tape!)

We would then put them in our brand new Oldsmobile high top, (1969 model) and

haul it to the ER.

I still teach the cravat ankle hitch when I am teaching the traction splint.

How many times have you gotten your traction splint out and the " pre-made

rubber/foam " hitch is missing?

I can sure remember the Half ring and the knot. Knots are a

specialty. I really liked it. By the way, did you know the average nurse

doesn't

know how to apply a traction splint?
