show off!! hahahah!! Mine are 18 mo. apart too. I had no issues getting

pregnant, but breastfeeding was another story. I almost asked my friend who was

an over producer to spot me some milk for my kid LOL! (she used to go to the

lactation consultant to figure out how to decrease her supply)

With Jimmy I had such a time with my milk supply as I wasn't producing,

(probably because I was stressed out anyway) that my doctor (was like 90 years

old when he delivered Jimmy - very old school) told me to go home, have a

Guiness beer (because that is what Irish women drink), and relax, and he said

that my milk supply will come in. Sure enough, it did! (Jimmy was 2 weeks old)

With Maddie, also had a hard time with my milk supply (although she was 4 days

old when it came in) it really wasn't until I started the gf/cf (10 months old

she was) that I was able to really produce so that she wasn't nursing every hour

and a half. (Yes, I was dedicated!)

I give you a lot of credit. Tandem feeding is work! I skipped over those

chapters as I wasn't even able to pump more than 2 ounces in 20 minutes...I

stress just thinking about it. Honestly though, if I had a milk supply like

yours I would be nursing both of my kids still. LOL!

Oh I understand, my husband had a " chit chat " with his Mom about her commentary

about breastfeeding. As I would visit, and when it was time to feed the baby, I

would go out to the car because she made it unbearable. She actually said that

breastfeeding is " gross " and referred to it once as " unsanitary. "

My sisters and breastfeeding girlfriends have similar stories...it's amazing

what people don't understand.

ugh... :) laura

Oh my Lord! How do these women suppose we fed our children before bottles were invented???? Oh, that's right - we hid in caves to nourish our children. That's how men took over the world.

And another thing, We think nothing of drinking milk from other species (cows and goats) yet, it's somehow disgusting for humans to drink human milk - we'd never find that at our local grocer, would we???????

Oh I understand, my husband had a " chit chat " with his Mom about her commentary about breastfeeding. As I would visit, and when it was time to feed the baby, I would go out to the car because she made it unbearable. She actually said that breastfeeding is " gross " and referred to it once as " unsanitary. "

My sisters and breastfeeding girlfriends have similar stories...it' s amazing what people don't understand. ugh... :) laura > > >> >> >> > >> >> > >> > >> >> > >> > >> >> > > Hi everyone,> > >> >> > >

What was the question? LOLOh... " I didn't try the elimination challenges though, maybe I will try eliminating one high phenol food at a time for a while to see if there are certain things aggravating him -- I already don't eat chocolate or corn but maybe eggs, tomatoes, strawberries?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up though, Toni -- what do you suggest I ask our DAN! to check for?  We are also enrolling him in a sibling study of children on the spectrum through Yale's autism research dept. just in case, G-d forbid.  So far, great eye contact and lots of smiling though -- keeping our fingers crossed.

-Leah " I don't know what the DAN should check for, I am very new to biomed. :-)As far as elimination, eggs first unless they are your favorite. Eggs still can upset MY stomach.

I saw the Yale study and printed a page out to remind me... in case I am ever up north LOL

You guys crack me up..Anyone have any ideas for what I should try eliminating first?

ROTFL... still waiting on human milk ice cream (actually I think someone tried to make human milk cheese and blogged about it on the net... not enough fat I think?)

You know...

I have been thinking about your post since I had read it...because I know that I

will/might be in that boat soon enough..

I would eliminate the thing I eat the most first. Just for a couple of days.

As you have already got the big stuff out of the way. (Wheat, Dairy, carbs,

etc.) -- My first thought was " almonds " -- and I am not sure why I am thinking

that...and the only reason I am thinking that is because it's a nut.

Nuts and beans are hard to digest anyway...I remember eating black bean soup and

Maddie being super gassy. Next time, I took several digestive enzymes before I

ate it, and it helped somewhat. (Not completely) And Broccoli always made her

gassy too.

NOw that I thinking about it, one of my breastfeeding books steered me to the

" white " diet or the bland diet. Which when I found the gf/cf diet, it made

sense to do it. I know that I started out eating rice (white - Jasmine, not

brown) three times a day w/fruit (pears) and/or veg. The only meat you could

have was chicken. I think it said to do that for 3 days. The veg was all

super-cooked green beans, zuchinni and summer squash. The only " spice " was

salt. Then you start adding one item back in (up to 2 items per day).

I know on the SCD diet there isn't room for rice, but if I was desperate I might

try it. Rice is what they use in the hypoallergenic formulas for babies...

Let me see if I can find my book about it...

Leah,

If you are taking your pre-natals and they have extra iron in them, you might

want to find one with reduced iron as it can upset baby stomach.

When I did it with Maddie - I went on the white rice, chicken, pear and green

bean diet for three days. I also took the juice of a 1/2 lemon in 8 oz of water

upon rising. (I am looking at my notes) - I added in garlic w/olive oil (for the

green beans) on day 4, then I added pineapple, on day 5, I added spinach, on day

6, day 7 I added salad veg (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, and italian dressing),

on day 8 I added a tomato, and I had issues. So I removed only tomato, and

stayed on what I had added for one full day, the next day, I added oranges,

again, had problems, stayed on what I had added for one full day. The next day,

I added apples, the next day blueberries and peaches, and coconut (in a

smoothie), no problems.

Within a month, I was back on mostly what I had eaten before but I had removed

tomatoes (which I knew), oranges, bananas, broccoli (I juiced with kale

instead), beans, potatoes, all natural sodas (I like a root beer float as a

dessert), all wheat, dairy, (except eggs), and for the most part soy. I do

drink one to two cups of caffeine coffee a day. (It's my vice) and it did not

seem to bother her. I drank it black, until I found almond milk wasn't

horrible.

From what I have read, (Blood Type Diet) -- Type A's do well on coffee as it

helps increase stomach acid for digestion. (I am a type A, and so is the rest

of the family) and I love coffee.

I definitely kept rice as my basic starch, and when I found rice pasta

(Tinkyada) -- I used that for my pesto, etc. I did tend to stay away from nuts

(except pine nuts for pesto), but towards the end of nursing, I added almond

milk and peanut butter. Both didn't seem to bother her at that time. She was

also on full food (gf/cf/soy and very limited corn.) -- and another weirdness,

my breast milk would turn green (a light pale green) when I drank my juicer

juice w/kale.

Maddie is a confirmed broccoli (and onion) eater now, and she loves beans. I

think she needed time for her system to figure out these foods? I do give her

digestive enzymes (or juicer juice) when she eats a lot of beans. (She LOVES my

black bean soup, but it's not necessarily nice to her!) -- She loves black beans

and rice too. One of her favorite meals. I usually cook it with chicken.

BY removing the foods I have, she has had no rashes under her pits. So, at some

point in the next three months, I will try to give them to her and see what

happens. She loves strawberries, but they cause a rash. So I am hoping that by

summer (haha) she will be okay with them, as I love to make strawberry

shortcake...

I hope this helps.

laura :)

yes laura, that totally helped and also i really appreciated hearing someone else has a vice (coffee in both of our cases, many others in mine) because everyone always seems to perfect and angelic on this board because we ahve to be for our kids but i really struggle with that and still craving bad things for me.

should i start my basic diet with diff foods than you did, though, since i already don't eat rice anyway since doing SCD?  Like maybe i can stick to my basics but try to phase tomatos, broccoli and strawberries, oranges, eggs in and out... nuts, eh?  i eat A LOT of nuts... too many but i never thought of that as being a stomach upsetter.  and I've been menaing to switch to a lower iron prenatal -- any suggestions on specific brands?

thanks so much,leah

yes laura, that totally helped and also i really appreciated hearing someone else has a vice (coffee in both of our cases, many others in mine) because everyone always seems to perfect and angelic on this board because we ahve to be for our kids but i really struggle with that and still craving bad things for me.

should i start my basic diet with diff foods than you did, though, since i already don't eat rice anyway since doing SCD?  Like maybe i can stick to my basics but try to phase tomatos, broccoli and strawberries, oranges, eggs in and out... nuts, eh?  i eat A LOT of nuts... too many but i never thought of that as being a stomach upsetter.  and I've been menaing to switch to a lower iron prenatal -- any suggestions on specific brands?

thanks so much,leah

Leah,

If you are taking your pre-natals and they have extra iron in them, you might want to find one with reduced iron as it can upset baby stomach.

When I did it with Maddie - I went on the white rice, chicken, pear and green bean diet for three days. I also took the juice of a 1/2 lemon in 8 oz of water upon rising. (I am looking at my notes) - I added in garlic w/olive oil (for the green beans) on day 4, then I added pineapple, on day 5, I added spinach, on day 6, day 7 I added salad veg (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, and italian dressing), on day 8 I added a tomato, and I had issues. So I removed only tomato, and stayed on what I had added for one full day, the next day, I added oranges, again, had problems, stayed on what I had added for one full day. The next day, I added apples, the next day blueberries and peaches, and coconut (in a smoothie), no problems.

Within a month, I was back on mostly what I had eaten before but I had removed tomatoes (which I knew), oranges, bananas, broccoli (I juiced with kale instead), beans, potatoes, all natural sodas (I like a root beer float as a dessert), all wheat, dairy, (except eggs), and for the most part soy. I do drink one to two cups of caffeine coffee a day. (It's my vice) and it did not seem to bother her. I drank it black, until I found almond milk wasn't horrible.

From what I have read, (Blood Type Diet) -- Type A's do well on coffee as it helps increase stomach acid for digestion. (I am a type A, and so is the rest of the family) and I love coffee.

I definitely kept rice as my basic starch, and when I found rice pasta (Tinkyada) -- I used that for my pesto, etc. I did tend to stay away from nuts (except pine nuts for pesto), but towards the end of nursing, I added almond milk and peanut butter. Both didn't seem to bother her at that time. She was also on full food (gf/cf/soy and very limited corn.) -- and another weirdness, my breast milk would turn green (a light pale green) when I drank my juicer juice w/kale.

Maddie is a confirmed broccoli (and onion) eater now, and she loves beans. I think she needed time for her system to figure out these foods? I do give her digestive enzymes (or juicer juice) when she eats a lot of beans. (She LOVES my black bean soup, but it's not necessarily nice to her!) -- She loves black beans and rice too. One of her favorite meals. I usually cook it with chicken.

BY removing the foods I have, she has had no rashes under her pits. So, at some point in the next three months, I will try to give them to her and see what happens. She loves strawberries, but they cause a rash. So I am hoping that by summer (haha) she will be okay with them, as I love to make strawberry shortcake...

I hope this helps.

laura :)

Leah, Don't feel so alone, girl. We all have vices. Every single one of us. I'm an ex-smoker...and to be quite honest, I only quit because it simply became too costly. The truth of the matter - It's been 4 years since I smoked my last cigarette, no I don't feel any better than before I quit, I've since put on 30 lbs.and I've never felt so lousy. lol. Learning everything I have , I'm so glad I stopped but I won't lie - I miss it like crazy. Add to it the fact that I survive on caffeine and my mouth can match any sailor and you won't find a judge, here. That's for sure. What's important here is that way love our children and we're doing what we can to make them well and maintain jobs, a

house, partners, other children, pets, and our sanity! If I'm still alive at 65, I promised myself I'll pick the habit back up. I figure that way I'll drop dead of old age before the cigarettes get a chance to kill me! lol

Leah, we all struggle. it's not just you. you are definitely not alone here...

I quit smoking when I was 27. I am 38. I can tell you, sometimes (before I was

pregnant with my first) I would sit next to a smoker just to inhale the smoke.

I don't know how to smoke just one, I only know how to smoke a pack. Addiction,

cravings, etc. -- is a daily choice for me. I have chosen not to today, but it

doesn't mean, someday I'm not going to give in. It's easy to " judge " people for

the past infractions or weaknesses...but the reality is -- walk a mile in

someone else's shoes. It's been 11 years, and I still want one, what does that

tell you about the power of cigarettes.

No judgments from over here. I, like Tammy, can match a sailor and probably

teach him/her a few things! You're here aren't you?..and my Mom used to say

" people can say lots of things, it's actions that define a person's character. "

Then if I belly ached too much she would say " I see you talkin' but that's all I

see. " --She's been gone for almost 13 years, and I can still hear her...it keeps

me going.

Then if I belly ached too much she would say " I see you talkin' but that's all I

see. " --She's been gone for almost 13 years, and I can still hear her...it keeps

me going.

Thanks for the pick-me-up, .  Where do you gals live?  I wish you were nearby so we could chat in person -- it gets lonely with so few people understanding our little autism universe.Glad to have " met " you guys though and am excited to continue on this journey together.

BTW, do any of you have blogs?  I started one to document Noam's journey but haven't really shared it with many people yet.  I guess I'm waiting to see some recovery action going on before I share it because then I'm afraid I'll *jinx* the biomed or something..  As much as I believe in all this and have true hope, a little positive reinforcement, sun shining through the clouds wouldn't hurt either...
