I don't really know the answer (doesn't sound like your doc KNOWS either lol) but I would first try doing SCD myself and continuing to nurse and if it doesn't seem to be helping after X amount of time, then I'd try something else, perhaps enzymes, before weaning. HTH some?

Hi everyone,

My soon to be 2 yr old son was diagnosed with ASD about 2 months ago. We put him on the GFCF diet right away. Noticed some improvement, but have heard a lot about the SCD diet. I have so many questions but here is one I'm having a hard time figuring out.

" What about toddlers who are still nursing and the SCD Diet " ? Would mom's milk be a forbidden food?

Our DAN doc seemed to think that mom's milk being species specific is o.k but he wasn't 100% sure. Anybody have any experience in this department?

Second, would I have to go on SCD Diet also? Right now I'm GFCF with our son but wasn't sure if any double sugars would pass through my milk making it necessary to also be on the SCD diet.

Thanks for your help!

Here's my two cents for what it's worth.

I nursed my daughter, Maddie, for 17 months. The first ~10 months were hell.

She cried all the time (many people called her a cry baby). (Told me that I

wasn't feeding her enough, told me that my milk was bad, told me all sorts of

things you shouldn't say to a nursing Mom.)

When I put my son (and my brother) on the GF/CF diet -- I too, did the diet

along with them. The crying stopped about 75%, and she became a much more

pleasant child. When I chose to have a piece of cake (on a date w/my husband)

-- she was miserable for 5 days. (About what you would get if she ate the cake

herself). At the beginning, I had given up on pasta dinners w/sauce because I

thought that was causing it. (As her crying lessened) -- it was helpful, but

wasn't enough.

When I ate the GF/CF diet exclusively, and took digestive enzymes, she stopped

crying all together. By this time she was on " full food " (and nursing only 2

times a day -- and I did the GF/CF diet with her (because the whole family was

doing it) -- and by Oct 09, she was a very happy child. And, we finally

connected. Prior to that, she would nurse, push me away, and want to be alone.

It was very disheartening to me, but I refused to give up.

She's 20 months, talks A LOT, meets or exceeds all milestones, and in

December-February gained weight and height (she was consistently in the 5% for

weight, and less than the 25% for height she is now in 2T clothing, and she's

~20 months - prior to that she was always a clothing size behind. 12 months she

was in 9 month clothing.) -- She also knows most of her alphabet and can count

to 10 -- which shocked and amazed me at the same time -- she sits with her

brother and I when we are doing speech and academic stuff)

So, while everyone is different, your milk supply will contain what you eat, and

if it doesn't agree with her (what you eat) you might want to refrain until you

are done nursing. I will also say, Maddie never got sick during those months

she nursed. She had a very good immune system and never got a cold. Once we

stopped nursing, she immediately got colds and runny noses. (And I started

giving her probiotics regularly)

I am pregnant again, and I can say this...I will be and have been gf/cf

exclusively, and I will remain that until I am done nursing the next one. I

feel like I can get this one right! Third times the charm!

Being a Mom is hard enough, and then faced with the challenges of breastfeeding

(which for those who it was easy -- God bless ya, I have never had it easy, but

I stuck it out. Both of my sisters (and my Mom) were naturals, and I can tell

you, it's frustrating to know that as I feel defective sometimes!) But

determination is half the battle.

Unfortunately, when I went to ask the support of lactation consultants and

doctors, I had very little support and no answers that were helping. It wasn't

until I found Stan Kurtz, this forum, and other Mom's in similar situations

(which NO ONE talks about openly) -- that I was able to formulate a plan with

Maddie. When I had Jimmy, I gave up (because he wasn't winning) in 4 months. I

cried A LOT. He was always sick. And I blamed myself for it.

Breastfeeding takes serious commitment and time - and it's easy to switch to

bottle feeding. And if that is what you have to do, trust me when I say, been

there, done it, and I understand. NO judgments from over here...I haven't slept

in 3 years. LOL!

But I will say this. Judy Converse's book " Special Needs Kids Eat Right " -- has

wonderful plans if you can't breastfeed for whatever reason that WORK. She

gives such options that I didn't know were possible. Maddie is not " special

needs " (when I think of special needs, I think of severely developmental issues

-- but she had issues. I told some of my friends to rip off the cover, and take

the information for what it's worth. None of the breastfeeding books cover any

of this stuff and trust me when I say -- I've read a LOT of books on

breastfeeding and childhood feeding issues.

I only put together a plan for myself after understanding what happens during

the " milk " process, and understanding what can happen. It was how I managed to

fix Maddie's and I's issues. It's such a special time for Mom and baby...and I

struggled both times. I would be remiss if I didn't throw out what I know

about it.

So, if you think you might have issues, or are having issues. Digestive

enzymes. GF/CF or SCD diet -- or basic diet (meat, starch, and veg).

Relaxation Techniques (follow Leah to massage therapy and use Activated charcoal

and drink lots of water), and keep taking your pre-natal vitamins, pro and

prebiotics along with CLO.

If you can't breastfeed, and are having problems -- read the sections in

" Special Needs Kids Eat Right " by Judy Converse, and formulate a plan. Make

sure you include some sort of pro-biotic for your child as they won't be getting

it from you.

That's my two cents! :)

Good luck, I hope it works for you, but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't.

Parenting is hard enough, and this is one short time in the big picture, it's

not going to make or break the relationship you build with your child. (Which

is THE most important thing.)

Why are you considering SCD? According to our DAN!, scd is for kids with gut inflammation that doesn't respond to other treatment modalities? Why not stay on gfcfsf and wait for a while to see how your child's body heals?nancy jSubject: Nursing Toddler on SCD Diet. To: mb12 valtrex Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010, 1:30 AM

,It's good to hear your story. My son would be fussy when I ate ice cream, so I started to use Lactaid and his fussiness stopped. People look at me like I have two heads when I tell them this, like how possibly could the protein of the cow milk I consumed get thru my milk to affect the baby?

Hi - interesting to hear your story, .  Asher, my 2 month old is still quite colicky fussy and gets very frustrated when nursing frequently.  I'm so scared about it because I've heard about some of the early medical histories of kids on the spectrum include some physical issues he already has such as: colic/reflux, excessive ear wax, dry skin and thrush.  It's like he's starving and wants to eat and then when he starts to eat he pushes me away and then cries more.  (He is gaining very nicely despite this -- he's now almost 15 lbs).  I've been doing SCD for about a month now though so I don't really know what else to change.  Any thoughts?  (p.s. the massage was awesome and took charcoal before and after and tried to drink lots...)

I nursed my daughter, Maddie, for 17 months. The first ~10 months were hell. She cried all the time (many people called her a cry baby). (Told me that I wasn't feeding her enough, told me that my milk was bad, told me all sorts of things you shouldn't say to a nursing Mom.)

When I put my son (and my brother) on the GF/CF diet -- I too, did the diet along with them. The crying stopped about 75%, and she became a much more pleasant child. When I chose to have a piece of cake (on a date w/my husband) -- she was miserable for 5 days. (About what you would get if she ate the cake herself). At the beginning, I had given up on pasta dinners w/sauce because I thought that was causing it. (As her crying lessened) -- it was helpful, but wasn't enough.

When I ate the GF/CF diet exclusively, and took digestive enzymes, she stopped crying all together. By this time she was on " full food " (and nursing only 2 times a day -- and I did the GF/CF diet with her (because the whole family was doing it) -- and by Oct 09, she was a very happy child. And, we finally connected. Prior to that, she would nurse, push me away, and want to be alone. It was very disheartening to me, but I refused to give up.

She's 20 months, talks A LOT, meets or exceeds all milestones, and in December-February gained weight and height (she was consistently in the 5% for weight, and less than the 25% for height she is now in 2T clothing, and she's ~20 months - prior to that she was always a clothing size behind. 12 months she was in 9 month clothing.) -- She also knows most of her alphabet and can count to 10 -- which shocked and amazed me at the same time -- she sits with her brother and I when we are doing speech and academic stuff)

So, while everyone is different, your milk supply will contain what you eat, and if it doesn't agree with her (what you eat) you might want to refrain until you are done nursing. I will also say, Maddie never got sick during those months she nursed. She had a very good immune system and never got a cold. Once we stopped nursing, she immediately got colds and runny noses. (And I started giving her probiotics regularly)

I am pregnant again, and I can say this...I will be and have been gf/cf exclusively, and I will remain that until I am done nursing the next one. I feel like I can get this one right! Third times the charm!

Being a Mom is hard enough, and then faced with the challenges of breastfeeding (which for those who it was easy -- God bless ya, I have never had it easy, but I stuck it out. Both of my sisters (and my Mom) were naturals, and I can tell you, it's frustrating to know that as I feel defective sometimes!) But determination is half the battle.

Unfortunately, when I went to ask the support of lactation consultants and doctors, I had very little support and no answers that were helping. It wasn't until I found Stan Kurtz, this forum, and other Mom's in similar situations (which NO ONE talks about openly) -- that I was able to formulate a plan with Maddie. When I had Jimmy, I gave up (because he wasn't winning) in 4 months. I cried A LOT. He was always sick. And I blamed myself for it.

Breastfeeding takes serious commitment and time - and it's easy to switch to bottle feeding. And if that is what you have to do, trust me when I say, been there, done it, and I understand. NO judgments from over here...I haven't slept in 3 years. LOL!

But I will say this. Judy Converse's book " Special Needs Kids Eat Right " -- has wonderful plans if you can't breastfeed for whatever reason that WORK. She gives such options that I didn't know were possible. Maddie is not " special needs " (when I think of special needs, I think of severely developmental issues -- but she had issues. I told some of my friends to rip off the cover, and take the information for what it's worth. None of the breastfeeding books cover any of this stuff and trust me when I say -- I've read a LOT of books on breastfeeding and childhood feeding issues.

I only put together a plan for myself after understanding what happens during the " milk " process, and understanding what can happen. It was how I managed to fix Maddie's and I's issues. It's such a special time for Mom and baby...and I struggled both times. I would be remiss if I didn't throw out what I know about it.

So, if you think you might have issues, or are having issues. Digestive enzymes. GF/CF or SCD diet -- or basic diet (meat, starch, and veg). Relaxation Techniques (follow Leah to massage therapy and use Activated charcoal and drink lots of water), and keep taking your pre-natal vitamins, pro and prebiotics along with CLO.

If you can't breastfeed, and are having problems -- read the sections in " Special Needs Kids Eat Right " by Judy Converse, and formulate a plan. Make sure you include some sort of pro-biotic for your child as they won't be getting it from you.

That's my two cents! :)

Good luck, I hope it works for you, but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't. Parenting is hard enough, and this is one short time in the big picture, it's not going to make or break the relationship you build with your child. (Which is THE most important thing.)

Not trying to freak you out Leah, but your situation sounds exactly like my

daughter's story. My daughter had a reaction to her hep b vaccine and by the

time she was 3 wks old, she had the colicky/refluxy/ not stop crying behavior.

The reaction sort of grew over the span of a couple of weeks and we didn't

exactly realize what was going on. Our pedi at the time gave us a bunch of

reflux meds and told me not to worry about it but the meds never worked and she

continued to cry nonstop until she was about 18mos. old. She was a horrible

nurser but gained weight and hit all her milestones so the dr. told us not to

worry.

I just thought I should share with you.....if you don't see any improvement, get

a good DAN! to see your kiddo. Our DAN! isn't convinced that she ever had reflux

and wants us to get an MRI done to rule out chiari malformation and then a scope

done to see what is going on in her gut. Sorry if this scares you, I'm not

trying to say you little guy is doomed or anything......I just think that if I

would have got a second opinion when my daughter was tiny, I could have maybe

saved her from most of the stuff we are going through.

I nursed until he was 3 1/2 (not in public, and sorry to gross anyone out!!) I read somewhere, way back when, that (one of), the best thing for kids w/ ASD, is breast milk. Which is why I continued on... And, yes, I had to do the diet, too....:) To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, April 18, 2010 12:12:11 AMSubject: Re: Nursing Toddler on SCD Diet.

This is sort of a side note, but I remember when my daughter was first born, she b/f awesomely. Later, (a day? still in the hospital) she did not, and for then next ten days it was miserable. I never knew why but it sounds like from what many other b/f moms experienced, it may have been the stupid hospital vaccination. I did manage to b/f her till 9 months but not sure it was necessarily the best thing since I am so mercury toxic :-(

My son b/f well from the beginning and we never went thru a tough time... he was not vax at birth. Never put the two things together! Crazy!, if I had not been trying to have another child for the last two years, I would have continued to b/f my son. Neither of us were ready to stop at 15 months. :-(

I nursed until he was 3 1/2 (not in public, and sorry to gross anyone out!!)  I read somewhere, way back when, that (one of), the best thing for kids w/ ASD, is breast milk.  Which is why I continued on... And, yes, I had to do the diet, too....

Leah,

I am not quite sure about the SCD diet and what is removed (sorry for the

ignorance) -- but as a last ditch effort -- I would try removing

gluten/wheat/dairy/casein. (At least for 10 days)...This is really what pulled

my daughter from being a " crying, fussy " baby...

I also removed tomatoes, soy and corn. (and not all corn, but the veg, and corn

chips-- if it had baking powder w/cornstarch, (like my pancakes) -- I ate it

anyway.

and YES! This is exactly what Maddie did to me. She acted like she was hungry,

and then she would eat, and then push me away. It's so disheartening -- and

I've been there...I only stopped nursing Maddie because I was pregnant again. I

would still be nursing her today. And no, I don't think it's gross. I think

our children need this extra time with Moms and I also think they need the extra

nutrition.

Maddie didn't gain well at all. This was also very frustrating. She met her

milestones on the late side (except walking, it was the day before she turned 10

months old that she started walking, and never crawled again.) But now, what a

difference. I MEAN " WHAT A DIFFERENCE " -- she is 75th for height and weight!

All within a couple of months.

Maddie however, gets these weird rashes under her armpits when she eats certain

foods. I have recently removed carrots, strawberries, bananas, potatoes, corn

(she used to love corn tortilla chips), peas, and the obvious

wheat/gluten/casein/dairy (except egg whites). The rashes have disappeared

completely. At first I thought they were prickly heat, and soon discovered that

when I removed these things (as I suspected a problem) they are gone. She was

only vaccinated with the HEPB in the Hospital, and the 2 months shots before I

stopped vaccinating.

The book, Special Needs Kids Eat Right, by Judy Converse, suggests a formula

called Neocate -- which is super hypoallergenic. I had thought if I couldn't

" fix " my problem with her, that I would at least try to see if I fed her that,

and she didn't fuss, that I could figure it out (as my last ditch effort to save

breastfeeding) what to remove from my diet to help her. It turns out that the

GF/CF diet fixed it, so I didn't go that route, but I was planning on it. I was

desperate too. I know where you are...no sleep, fussy child, lack of good solid

answers...ugh...I cringe just thinking about where you are!

The book also suggests (now this will sound weird, hang in there) brushing your

nipples with Klaire Labs Therabiotic Infant Probiotic, to help with getting them

" good " microbes. Since I figured this out late, I was able to add it to her

drinks in her sippy cup. However, I'm would have tried that too.

And considering he is gaining nicely -- tells me he is getting enough to eat

(your milk supply is fine)...so that is why I would think it's something you are

consuming that isn't agreeing with the little guy.

Nursing is so hard and it's so rewarding when it goes well...I really want

something to work for you guys..because it's so good for him, and it's so good

for you. Sticking it out for 10 months was HARD. I felt totally defective.

But I eventually got it.

Let us know how it's going...As I am going to be there with you in a few

months...and I want to know what is working for you! :)

To piggyback what Toni is saying..I think she is correct. Both of my children

breastfed right after birth -- I mean RIGHT AFTER BIRTH. This was important to

me. Both fed wonderfully, latched on great, etc. It wasn't until we got home

that the problems started. Both were vaccinated in the hospital on the second

day we were there...

I never put the two together, much less figured that might have been the cause.

I know now! And I think I am better prepared this time. We will see won't we!

Leah,

I just went and looked up the SCD diet (finally)...and it looks like it

basically removes wheat/gluten -- but dairy (like butter, cheese, yogurt and

eggs) are allowed. - Instead of these (except cheese, there really isn't a good

sub for cheese. I am a confirmed cheese LOVER...) -- coconut oil for butter or

ghee (clarified butter that the casein is removed) and egg whites instead of

eggs, and make your own coconut yogurt. Basically remove milk too. To see a

big difference I don't think will take 10 days...I think actually it will 1 full

day removed from your diet and then a full day of breastfeeding to see a major

difference. But to see if it's a good removal -- I would keep it up for at

least a week.

I know with my niece, when they switched from reg milk to rice milk (I know, not

allowed on the SCD, but almond milk is) -- and removed cheese for a day, she

slept thru the night that night. Once they added it back in, she got crabby

again.

Something to consider... :) laura

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the feedback.  So to answer some of your points -- and Toni - I've been doing SCD but the hardcore - ASD version which I think is technically called GAPS, which excludes dairy too. It's basically GF/CF plus all the sugar/carby restrictions of the SCD.

And, luckily I had been well enough informed of all this that he didn't receive anything in the hospital aside from vitamin K -- and even that I had been on the fence about FOREVER... finally decided on it because we knew we were going to circumcise.   On the unfortunate side, I was smoking 2-3 cigarretes/day up until I found out I was pregnant (around 6 weeks) and I was addicted to lox the entire first trimester.. only got Noam's diagnosis when I was well into my 2nd trimester when I pretty quickly made all these connections and started treating my body better.  I still had those occasional sips of beer or wine though and only really cleaned up my act in my last couple months of pregnancy and even more so, post-partum.  I constantly pray that I haven't damned my child from all the pre-conception garbage and early pregnancy crap I consumed... and for me to clean up my act is a constant battle.  I have major oral motor sensory issues myself, constantly craving cigarettes and caffeine.  I allow myself 1-2 decaf coffees/week which I already feel awful enough about as it is.  And on that note, how do you ladies ever just let go?  i am always dreaming of some sort of mind-altering substance to abuse to make the challenges of our life feel a little bit easier...

I pray that it wasn't too late once I made these changes for Asher and that he will be okay.  I currently take a prenatal vitamin, 2-4 probiotics/day and I try to get in the EFAs but usually forget... must be more consistent.

I didn't try the elimination challenges though, maybe I will try eliminating one high phenol food at a time for a while to see if there are certain things aggravating him -- I already don't eat chocolate or corn but maybe eggs, tomatoes, strawberries?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up though, Toni -- what do you suggest I ask our DAN! to check for?  We are also enrolling him in a sibling study of children on the spectrum through Yale's autism research dept. just in case, G-d forbid.  So far, great eye contact and lots of smiling though -- keeping our fingers crossed.

-Leah

The more I read about the SCD diet, the more I realize that it really should be

the first step, and not the last. Our son doesn't exhibit any irritable bowel

symptoms (diarrhea, stomach ache) but does have many periods where his is

constipated. It also worries me that before GFCF all my son wanted to eat was

bagels, cream cheese and grilled cheese. Now on GFCF all he wants to eat are

GFCF baked goods. He will only eat pancakes, muffins, breads that I bake. I

really feel that his body is addicted to the foods that are harming him. We are

working with a DAN doc but just began the process and waiting on his test

results. In the meantime, I'm reading " breaking the vicious cycle " and getting

ready to start the SCD diet. I just want my little guy to get better and have

not really seen an improvement with being on the GFCF diet for 62 days.

Again...if anybody knows about human milk, and if that is " forbidden " or o.k on

SCD that would be great. Our son is still totally addicted to nursing and I

don't know if this is o.k or doing him harm. I also don't want to start SCD and

not do it right, but then again, I can't wean my son overnight. I don't know

who to ask and where to go for help. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Tina - If your son is addicted to all the homemade GF/CF bready foods you're making, it's likely he'll be a great responder to SCD.  After I read " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, " I decided to start slow and steady and the biggest help was cooking back to basics.  Juicing has really helped deliver lots of vegetable nutrients but aside from that i basically have fun mixing and rotating meats and veggies.  i used to be an " only lettuce and tomato " veggie buyer and intimidated by the entire wall of weird greens in the store -- now i have about 8 varieties of greens, kale and chards in my fridge -- its just a slow adjustment to cooking wholesome real food --  i remember when we were only doing gf/cf, i spent hundreds on every gf cookie and bake mix available -- but that's not real food either.  the only thing i bake now is elaibe gottschalls basic nut bread which i spread homemade jam on for Noam's breakfast.  the key is not to be intimidated but rather, excited... i've been doing it with him and it really is cool -- its like laura said on another post, you know your body is on its way to health when you crave the good stuff.  for us SCD hasn't even been enough -- i just ordered the BED book and am so excited to read that and start fermenting in my kitchen -- i think once we do that, itll be the missing link to noams diet.

good luck and feel free to msg me more about it!leah

Tina,

I think Human Milk is wonderful for a child -- what I was saying to Leah was she

too, (like you) should be doing the diet as well, if you are going to nurse. I

just cautioned her about using dairy while nursing, as I couldn't break down the

milk proteins and they were getting into my milk supply. Once I gave up dairy

(all forms, except eggs) -- Maddie and I were able to have a happy Mom/Baby

nursing relationship. Toni suggested Lactaid -- and this could be an option

too, if you need that creamer in your coffee (and yes, I am a confirmed coffee

lover...and almond milk does not do it for me the way creamer does, but it's

what I do for my kids...someday, I will get it back..just not now.)

Kids crave carbs because it gives them energy. After reading the SCD diet, I

agree, it really should be the first, but for us, the milk (cows) was a real

problem along w/casein, so that worked wonders for us by removing it.

I went on line and purchased the book. I am very interested in this diet as my

sister has cronhs disease...

We ferment in our kitchen (I have a fermenting pot - and LOVE it.) - I make my

own Kim Chi and Jimmy eats it. He loves the juice I make for him, and he is

becoming less addicted to carbs (rice noodles are his fav) and his natural

sugars...I never restricted these things as I felt that kids need to eat. He

used to eat like a bird, now he is eating more like a little boy. 3 squares plus

2 snacks...I couldn't be happier. (there was a time not so long ago that he

only ate the 5 or 6 things that I substituted)

And yes, getting excited and the willingness to try new things is key to these

types of diets...

I've learned a lot on this forum, and today was no exception - thanks Leah! :)

I know everyone is different...My two are 18 mos. apart ( is my oldest). I know everyone is different...My two are 18 mos. apart ( is my oldest). I was able to nurse, and get pregnant, and nurse through my entire second pregnancy (my second son is almost four -- completely NT), and then after he was born, I tandem fed both of them -- crazy, I know! And nursed my second until he was 3 1/2, too. And, yes, we do SCD.....From: Toni Marie Lombardo

Later, (a day? still in the hospital) she did not, and for then next ten days it was miserable. I never knew why but it sounds like from what many other b/f moms experienced, it may have been the stupid hospital vaccination. I did manage to b/f her till 9 months but not sure it was necessarily the best thing

since I am so mercury toxic :-( My son b/f well from the beginning and we never went thru a tough time... he was not vax at birth. Never put the two things together! Crazy!, if I had not been trying to have another child for the last two years, I would have continued to b/f my son. Neither of us were ready to stop at 15 months. :-( On Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 8:17 AM, <yahoo (DOT) com> wrote: I nursed until he was 3 1/2 (not in public, and sorry to gross anyone

AMSubject: Re: Nursing Toddler on SCD Diet. Not trying to freak you out Leah, but your situation sounds exactly like my daughter's story. My daughter had a reaction to her hep b vaccine and by the time she was 3 wks old, she had the colicky/refluxy/ not stop crying behavior. The reaction sort of grew over the span of a couple of weeks and we didn't exactly realize what was going on. Our pedi at the time gave us a bunch of reflux meds and told me not to worry about it but the meds never worked and she continued to cry nonstop until she was about 18mos. old. She was a horrible nurser but gained weight and hit all her milestones so the dr. told us not to worry. I just thought I should share with you.....if you don't see any improvement, get a good DAN! to see your

kiddo. Our DAN! isn't convinced that she ever had reflux and wants us to get an MRI done to rule out chiari malformation and then a scope done to see what is going on in her gut. Sorry if this scares you, I'm not trying to say you little guy is doomed or anything.... ..I just think that if I would have got a second opinion when my daughter was tiny, I could have maybe saved her from most of the stuff we are going through. -Amber > >> > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > Hi everyone, > >> > > > >> > > My soon to be 2 yr old son was diagnosed with ASD about 2 months ago. > >> We > >> > > put him on the GFCF diet right away. :-)I have to inject fertility meds. So couldn't do both. I imagined that injecting FSH/LH would not affect my nursing kid but the doctor didn't agree so much. I would have loved to do it though :-)My daughter we tried a long time for, my son I got pregnant with right away... so due to no planning of our own, they ended up 18 months apart, too. ;)

And, yes, we do SCD.....

show off!! hahahah!! Mine are 18 mo. apart too. I had no issues getting

pregnant, but breastfeeding was another story. I almost asked my friend who was

an over producer to spot me some milk for my kid LOL! (she used to go to the

lactation consultant to figure out how to decrease her supply)

With Jimmy I had such a time with my milk supply as I wasn't producing,

(probably because I was stressed out anyway) that my doctor (was like 90 years

old when he delivered Jimmy - very old school) told me to go home, have a

Guiness beer (because that is what Irish women drink), and relax, and he said

that my milk supply will come in. Sure enough, it did! (Jimmy was 2 weeks old)

With Maddie, also had a hard time with my milk supply (although she was 4 days

old when it came in) it really wasn't until I started the gf/cf (10 months old

she was) that I was able to really produce so that she wasn't nursing every hour

and a half. (Yes, I was dedicated!)

I give you a lot of credit. Tandem feeding is work! I skipped over those

chapters as I wasn't even able to pump more than 2 ounces in 20 minutes...I

stress just thinking about it. Honestly though, if I had a milk supply like

yours I would be nursing both of my kids still. LOL!
