Guest guest
That would have meant that should have been on solids when he was 2 weeks old! > She was last weighed two weeks ago when she was 15lb 5oz. Guest guest
Suzanne: My Hv said >something about most babies wanting solids when they reach 12lb. : This must date back to about 1960! The advice has been NOT to give babies solids before 4 months for at least 5 years. This is now changed to " between 4 and 6 months " . There is evidence linking early weaning with allergies, and this HV is giving duff advice.

My HV said in a sceptical tone 'there has been some research done which shows that solids pass through the gut wall before 16 weeks, but...' and went on to tell us about hungry babies, the failings of some research, etc etc - the implication was pretty clear. I think they have to refer to the most recent research, unfortunately that doesn't seem to stop them from carrying on with their own agenda. (On a similar note, those of you who were party to my struggle for a home birth will remember maybe that my community midwife told all the women and partners on the hospital tour that internal foetal monitoring was routine if you were under consultant care - something which the supervisor of midwifes informed me was patently untrue. I met another woman who was under the same midwife today and she was told exactly the same thing. It's like banging your head against a brick wall, honestly...presumably the S of M told her not to say that but she is carrying on doing so (noone there to stop her, is there?) and worrying pregnant women un-necessarily. Sigh.) (disenchanted)
