Guest guest
The talk about botox caused me to think back to my first speech problems. It the very beginning, my only sign of speech problems was when I was tired, stressed, or had to speak publicly..projecting my voice for a period of time. Then, Nov 1999, I developed the flu. I went to the doctor and they prescribed one of the new (well, new then) anti-viral drugs that you use as an inhaler. After 4 days of using this drug I awoke to a highly spastic voice. I was able to get out only one syllable at a time. It was so frightening that my husband took me to the emergency room. The ER doctor said it was the PLS, that type of speech was consistent with the disease. Now, at that time PLS was only an idea, not a confirmed diagnosis. My speech improved daily and after a week I was back to normal. Then, Jan 2000, I took another anti-viral along with Interferon and low and behold my speech rapidly worsened to the point that I was completely unintelligible. That time the effects lasted for a good 6 months, only improving slightly. It was only after the implant of my baclofen pump that I noticed a real improvement with my speech. , did you ever take any kind of anti-viral medication?? Or anything that might have had an effect on your speech? Guest guest
Have they tried a bone conduction aid? Is his hearing better from the bone? My daughter has much better luck with a bone conduction aid, called a BAHA. Her hearing tests higher with the bone aids in the booth. Might be worth a try. Guest guest
Michele I don't know what aggressive therapy can be. I feel like I just don't have enough information. Maybe I'm just trying to control an uncontrolable situation (again). Everyone keeps saying that these are the language years. I'm really feeling the presure to " make " this happen. He has a severe/mild (left/ right) loss and seems to understand everything I'm saying. With his aids he should have all the hearing he needs for speech. I guess I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can. We just got our first lesson from the Clinic, we're in the Deaf-Blind program. I hope to find helpful information there. I'm going to concentrate more effort on signing as well. Thanks Alissa, mom to many including 23mths, ChaRGE > Alissa- > I don't think Aubrie had any more sounds than that at ' age.
