Guest guest
YEAH!!!! It took about 2 months to get Jimmy to drink Juicer Juice to 1/2 and 1/2...and he still prefers 1/2 store bought (thin juice) -- to his thick juicer juice...but will drink the full juicer juice... YEAH! ON the zinc...I didn't realize HOW MUCH that helped us. Jimmy actually turned down his favorite fruits for broccoli tonight! He is definitely preferring less sugar lately...I had read in one of my " diet " books that when your body craves for " good " food, you know you are on the way to being healthy -- and when " cake " is too sweet, it means you're body is getting to the point of being " balanced. " Textures were always a problem, and we don't have this issue anymore either, and it just gets better and better. I hug my juicer...I love it, and it has helped us so much! Guest guest
Hi , did you just start using zinc or did you make a change to the zinc you were already giving? My son is on zinc too, but we haven't found the right form or dose yet, I guess. Thanks, Soraya Hi everyone, I asked about the texture issue too a while ago because even though juicers come with strainers, the juice that you produce when juicing will be thicker than the juice that comes from a juice box. My son wouldn't drink the juice that I was making even though it was pure juice. recommended adding small amounts of the juiced juice to the store bought type that your child is used to and gradually increasing the ratio of juiced juice to store bought juice. This is working for us. Hope this helps. See , I was definitely listening, lol. Also, , the zinc is working for my son! First it increased his appetite to normal levels and he is now gaining weight and growing. Now he is becoming more willing to eat new foods. He's very texture sensitive, but has just begun eating banana!! Yea! Thanks again! > > > > >Â > , > > > > > > My juicer came in last night, hurray! Guest guest
Hi Soraya, We had the same experience. When my son was 30 lbs and about 32 months old we tried zinc supplementing at 25 mg. We saw absolutely no improvement. Also, we weren't that successful at hiding the texture (didn't know he couldn't taste it so we could hide it in applesauce - just mix it really well)so we only lasted about 2 weeks on the zinc the first time. Then, we researching on this list serve and a few people said the correct dosage was 20 mg plus 1 mg for every lb of weight. This got us to 50 mg. I verified this with my DAN! and others and they said that zinc doesn't become toxic until considerably more than 100mg per day so we're at a very safe dosage. We mixed it up in his applesauce and started eating more within a week. He's gained 5 lbs in the 2-3 months that we've been using it. Now after all this time, we are finally starting to see him be consistently willing to try new foods. We got some fleeting glimpses of this when we first started MB12, but it went away. Zinc supplements have actually provided the most sustained and obvious improvements that we have seen. Right now, we are still using zinc piccolinate. recommends zinc monomethionine. My DAN! said that the piccolinate is the Ford and monomethionine is the Ferrari and that for most people the Ford gets them where they need to go. In our case, this seems an apt metaphor because the piccolinate is getting us there. . . but more slowly. We've got a prescription for the zinc methionine placed at Hopewell Pharmacy to be compounded, but they don't seem to get methionine often so they have to order it. I would recommend discussing zinc monomethionine (at the dosage calculated using the formula above) with your DAN! It has made a big difference for us. Good luck and keep us posted > > > > > > > > >Â > , > > > > > > > > > > My juicer came in last night, hurray! After playing for a > > little while, I quickly realized how expesive this can get. Guest guest
Yeah I know it's kinda funny but seriously, I was a kid who wouldn't sit in my seat in kinder, I remember fidgeting constantly as a kid, thinking why cant I keep myself from doing this, and I've had a ton of fillings for as long as I remember (less now I think b/c before I got braces I had several teeth removed) My brother is celiac and seized when he got the DTP shot as a boy, had learning disabilities and speech classes... awkward kid who remembered facts and could not do common sense / " normal " things (never learned to ride a bike) I called him the " actually " kid because all his life he would correct people with " Actually, ... Guest guest
Today we went to a birthday party (my AS daughter and I) and I haven't taken her to a large party like that before. It was too much for her to take and she began a tantrum. Well, I knew better than to leave, b/c then I get to endure the tantrum about leaving, and don't get to the stay for the party. Double whammy for me. And as part as what I deem " therapy, " better to work thru the anxiety than run. Anyway, we eventually got thru it and she had a good time... I was just waiting for someone to stare a little too long or say something... I didn't know what I was going to say, I was trying to formulate something... all I could come up with was " This is what autism looks like. "  I saw a boy there I suspect is " spectrum-y " too. Several kids tried to talk to my daughter and she didn't really respond/connect but she sought this boy out and tried to talk to him. Kinda cool.  We don't say " autistic " , we say " feeling a little spectrumy today or wow, he (or she) is definitely spectrumy " . Gotta use the word to desensitize everyone about it. nancy j  Hi Soraya, We had the same experience. Guest guest
I think it depends on whether your child has a deficiency. I've read that a high % of kids on the spectrum are deficient (don't recall if it was more like 50% or 90% though). I do know that Dr. Neubrander prescribes 50 mg for a 50 lb child as a matter of course (it's in the DRN vitamin supplement). I also talked to a bunch of DAN! docs at the conference in Baltimore last week and heard universally that below 100mg was safe. If Noam is very picky or has a tiny appetite, I would try upping the zinc supplement. Thus far, it has been the most effective treatment that we have used in terms magnitude of change and consistency of results. Hasn't effected his autism directly, but it's impacting one of those obvious symptoms. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi laura,Can u send me the spec sheet for zinc monomethionine? I've try zinc chelate from kirkman (if I'm not writing it wrong) and it make my son had constipation+bloated tummy. Before this I gave him zinc picolinate too,no improvement.ThanksKathSent from my BlackBerry® smartphone from Sinyal Bagus XL, Nyambung Teruuusss...!Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2010 14:54:31 -0000To: <mb12 valtrex >Subject: Re: Juicing Leah, Jimmy (my 3.5 year old) was taking 20 mg, and getting no where -- Zinc Picolinate. That was when my DAN suggested getting it compounded with the Zinc Monomethionine. I think he was on 50 mg per day. It took 3 weeks on this for him to eat vegetables (in the natural form). However, we have had no problems since. (I have a spec sheet if you want me to email it to you, to show your DAN and see what they think)I would actually say that both my husband and I have very " spectrum-y " behaviors...I took the quiz Toni suggested and tested " positive " with 130 questions/200 questions -- on the spectrum... Guest guest
Don't feel bad...I was that child too. My first grade teacher told my Mom - " she's smart, can't sit to save her life, and can't read a lick of anything, but understands concepts way above her peers.
