My juicer came in last night, hurray! After playing for a little while, I

quickly realized how expesive this can get. Can you tell me a couple of your

fav. recipes to save me a little $$$$ experimenting? Also, I made a freakin'

mess! My kitchen looked like " who did it and ran? " LOL

LOL!!!My dad brought me his juicer last week and I still haven't played with it.BUT this weekend I also got a food dehydrator, and made fruit roll ups last night. That was fun and also made the " who did it and ran " mess ;-)

Yes, it can get expensive. We spend about $65 a week on juicing. Just for the

fruit. I tend to purchase organic only. (Even the pineapple)

I read your post, and laughed -- at first, that is what it's like. When you get

" good " at it, it's a non issue, non-mess, and in 10 min or less, you have 16 oz

of juicer juice, and your juicer is cleaned and back together ready for

tomorrow. I have this down to a science...then again, if you saw my morning

" list " ....I pack a lot into a short period of time.

My favorite tasting juice -- is

In a bowl -- put:

1/2 Pineapple ( " spears " w/rind removed)--

this is going to sound anal, but trust me, it's fast, it's efficient, and it

works well. Cut off the top, cut off the bottom, Stand the pineapple up on the

cut ends - cut in 1/2, (throw the other 1/2 in a baggie for tomorrow.)--

take the 1/2 that is left, cut that in 1/2 (Lengthwise) - you should have two

triangle looking halves. Cut off the " tip " part as close - this will make a

" triangle spear " -- do it to both. Then cut that in half lengthwise, and cut

off the rind on both. You should have 6 spears of pineapple.

This sounds like " a lot " -- but honestly, it takes less than 2 minutes.

2 Kiwi - cut off the two " tough " parts (the top and bottom) - no need to peel.

2 pears - peel on - cut off top and bottom, cut in 1/2 and 1/2 again remove

seeds

1/2 lemon - peeled but with white part left on -- just get rid of the yellow

part. (Baggie for other 1/2)

1/2 " peeled ginger - peel the ginger root as a whole, and just peel what you

need, and then cut it off the whole root (I hope I am making sense)

The ginger gives it some " kick " so don't go overboard on the ginger.

Both of my children had a lot of constipation issues, once I started juicing, it

was a non-issue. Thanks to the pineapple, pear and kiwi - which are wonderful

for digestion. Lemon is great for getting rid of phlem, mucus, and detoxing the

liver. Ginger is a wonderful anti-inflammatory (as most of our kids have these

issues)

it, I got creative. I added oranges (pineapple and orange only is just

awesome!), cranberries (easy!! - add 1/4 cup, you don't need much) and great as

had an orchard down the street.

Well, I just got Jack Lallane's Juicer - his top of the line juicer -and so far, so good! It's nice and quiet and takes no effort to use. I did see a consumer report that says you can buy one just as good as Jack's for half the price, but you have to subscribe to their site to find out which one. Hope this helps.

P.S. Apparently, this one I bought has a problem juicing tomatoes (I have not tried yet. But that's what consumer reporters experienced) another thing to keep in mind.

I call this "hulk" juice. It's such a pretty green. I also have done parsley, cilantro, dandelion greens -- and don't use many, because you really don't need to. (I would have used spinach like Stan Kurtz, but it's on Rob's IGg as a 3...so, I used Kale instead. - w/Kale remove the thick stem in middle, run a knife up both sides) Like most things, get your "base" together.

I agree with everything said...Just thought I would add here. We just started juicing and we love it too! I bought a Green Star Juicer Elite. It is very expensive, but I can juice enough for two days and the juice will hold the nutrients where as with other juicers you have to drink the juice immediately or that same day. (However we usually end up drinking it in one day because it is so good)

We juice everyday and once you get the hang of it, it takes less time then making pancakes and bacon which hold no nutritional value (just had to throw that it)

My son was an extremely picky eater and would never have eaten greens like he gets now. He loves his green drink and will actually ask me for it.

Here are 2 juicing recipe we love

2 granny smith apples

1/4 bunch spinach

1/4 bunch parsley

1/2 cup Kale (I ususally use romaine)

1 cucumber (skin on)

2 stalks of celery

1 lemon peeled (leaving pith the white part on as much as possible)

Detoxifying Juice

1/2 bunch of cilantro (draws heavy metals out of the body)

1/2 pineapple (lots of nutrition in the core)

4-5 mint leaves (optional)

1 large cucumber

Highly recommend all organic

At first I was intimidated by juicing and thought I can't do this. Now I always play around and will use anything I have left over in my fridge. I usually use lots of greens and throw in 1 fruit to sweeten it up. For us I don't juice a lot of fruits at once because of the sugars.

I'm just juicing because we all eat like crap in my house an we're slowly working our way over to gfcf (some items are quietly disappearing and substitues for their faves are making their way in). I've starting juicing w/ fruits mostly with the intention of working veggies in over time. I've got super-sensory kids when it comes to smell. For some reason, I think I can outsmart them. When will I learn? LOL

I juiced because my son wouldn't eat anything but the substitute 5 things that I

put in front of him. He is only gf/cf soy, corn and if I start to see a trend

of too many bananas, apples, or strawberries, I do a stop, and get him to try

other things. (He is fine with it)

He eat about 15 vegetables now - I love saying that because it's really only

been since the end of January that he would even bring a veg to his mouth. Now

he asks for broccoli, asparagus, carrots, and salad! -- and I never thought I

would have heard those words...We've been on the diet since June 2009.

I am so sorry, but I am not familiar with the scd diet, however, if your child

doesn't eat many vegetables, juicing is a great way to get them in there...

My son, Jimmy, is a bonafide fruit lover. He will walk past the candy aisle,

and go straight for the strawberries, apples and bananas, and beg me in the

grocery store... (How could I say no?) Frozen blueberries are dessert...he

calls them mini-pops. Someone offered him a " cookie " and he said " no-thank

you. " at three...(thank God, it had wheat, butter, HFCS and transfat in it, and

I would have cried a lot!)

And that is exactly what I did. I did fruits at first -- so he could get used

to the texture and taste..(and that took some time!) and I slowly worked all the

other stuff in. It worked well for us. I know that some are worried about

sugar, but when your child only eats 5 things, you have to pick your battles.

Children have to eat. Milk and wheat weren't an option, so I went for the next

thing that I could get him, sugar - in it's natural form. With fiber, enzymes,

and all sorts of wonderful things that the body and the brain needs...This

didn't slow us down one bit.

Jimmy responded very well to the diet, and its just gotten better and better.

He is now only slightly speech delayed. I realize that many parents on this

board fight so many fronts that fighting the " sugar " in all it's forms has got

to be the worst...because some of these kids are so picky -- they would

starve...I know, my child was EXTREMELY picky..and that has resolved itself. He

finally has what I think is a very balanced diet -- FINALLY. (and the correct

caloric intake, and the correct fiber intake!) -- it took us about 9 months to

get here..

....and honestly, if I didn't have juicing, I am not sure what I would have done.

I own the Jack LaLanne Power Elite Juicer ($180) -- and I would buy it all over

again...I hug my juicer... LOL!!

If you ever get a chance you should google " Jack LaLanne " -- the guy is

fascinating. I am not sure if he died, but he was 94 last time I checked and

looked younger than most 60 year olds...that's got to be a testimony in itself.

I love it too, as it lets me know something is working correctly!! According to

several nutritionists/diet guru's your body should crave these foods. ...and

Can I borrow you for a couple of days to come stay with us - my son wont look at vegetables, fruits cant even be in front of him. I used to make juices all the time, different kind fruits & veg. Getting him to drink it was not a pleasant experience (my husband loved the juices). After a while I stopped :-(

We are in the process of going with the Raw diet. We are about 80%.We do alot of juicing and smoothines and I am working my way twords making meals like pizza, chili, cereal, etc... the raw deserts are easy, it's the meals that I am still learning how to make.

Hi. Of course!! Would love to...Yes, it can get expensive. We spend about $65 a week on juicing. Just for the fruit. I tend to purchase organic only. (Even the pineapple)I read your post, and laughed -- at first, that is what it's like. When you get "good" at it, it's a non issue, non-mess, and in 10 min or less, you have 16 oz of juicer juice, and your juicer is cleaned and back together ready for tomorrow. I have this down to a science...then again, if you saw my morning "list"....I pack a lot into a short period of time.My favorite tasting juice -- is In a bowl -- put:1/2 Pineapple ("spears" w/rind removed)-- this is going to sound anal, but trust me, it's fast, it's efficient, and it works well. Cut off the top, cut off the bottom, Stand the pineapple up on the cut ends - cut in 1/2, (throw the other 1/2 in a baggie for tomorrow.)--take the 1/2 that is left, cut that in 1/2 (Lengthwise) -

you should have two triangle looking halves. Cut off the "tip" part as close - this will make a "triangle spear" -- do it to both. Then cut that in half lengthwise, and cut off the rind on both. You should have 6 spears of pineapple.This sounds like "a lot" -- but honestly, it takes less than 2 minutes. 2 Kiwi - cut off the two "tough" parts (the top and bottom) - no need to peel. 2 pears - peel on - cut off top and bottom, cut in 1/2 and 1/2 again remove seeds1/2 lemon - peeled but with white part left on -- just get rid of the yellow part. (Baggie for other 1/2)1/2" peeled ginger - peel the ginger root as a whole, and just peel what you need, and then cut it off the whole root (I hope I am making sense)The ginger gives it some "kick" so don't go overboard on the ginger. Both of my children had a lot of constipation issues, once I started juicing, it was a non-issue. Thanks to the pineapple, pear

and kiwi - which are wonderful for digestion. Lemon is great for getting rid of phlem, mucus, and detoxing the liver. Ginger is a wonderful anti-inflammatory (as most of our kids have these issues) This was my "BASE" for my juicing recipes at the beginning. As I got "good" at it, I got creative. I added oranges (pineapple and orange only is just awesome!), cranberries (easy!! - add 1/4 cup, you don't need much) and great as an antibacterial. Kale isn't gross. Just do one leaf at a time. I call this "hulk" juice. It's such a pretty green. I also have done parsley, cilantro, dandelion greens -- and don't use many, because you really don't need to. (I would have used spinach like Stan Kurtz, but it's on Rob's IGg as a 3...so, I used Kale instead. - w/Kale remove the thick stem in middle, run a knife up both sides) Like most things, get your "base" together. And add from there. I used these because they seemed to pack the punch where I was

having the most issues... The liver. Detox has everything to do with consistent BM's, pee, and getting the most out of your liver. The other fruit that shouldn't be ignored is apples. If you google the benefits of apple juice, it actually acts like "medicine" for the brain. I love fresh apple juice w/lemon, or with cranberries. I juice all kinds of apples. I like Gala the best, but granny smith are good too. Here in TX, we don't get Macintosh -- but I can only imagine that is awesome. I grew up in NY, and we had an orchard down the street. There is NO need to peel the apples. Just cut out the seeds. Cut into 4's and w/paring knife pick out the seeds. Give me a day, and I will make a juicing PDF for you.
