Guest guest
In my opinion, you need to give her antibiotics if she has pneumonia. Pneumonia, when not treated properly and quickly can get very dangerous. Not only that but it can lead to much more damaging things like a type of lung cancer (I can't remember the name) which only has a very low recovery rate (learned about it when my aunt got it from pneumonia - she had to have lung surgery and she went in with only a 20% chance of coming out.). I think you need to see your pediatrician and not your DAN or naturopath on this one. Nystatin is a non-systemic antifungal and won't touch anything in the lungs if the pneumonia leads to it. If a z-pack is out of the question, use a different abx. I know this is a hard choice but honestly, at some point you need to pick the lesser of the two evils. Ototoxicity is obviously something to be concerned by but so is pneumonia. My bil just went through pneumonia and it took 2 months to get rid of it and several x-rays, several antibiotics (it wasn't responding to usual abx) and a ton of caution. So if I sound like an alarmist, it's because in the last year, pneumonia has been responsible for a lot in my family. Get the antibiotics and discuss the ototoxicity with your ped, maybe s/he will have some suggestions. Or even discuss it with your DAN on how to reduce ototoxicity while on abx. It's a touch decision, I know. I don't blame you for your concern at all. Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ i have been reading posts for almost a year and am so thankful for this group. i am trying to help my 6 year-old daughter who has apraxia, developmental delays, autistic tendencies, as well as leaky gut, allergies, asthma, etc. we are doing gfcf, cdbiotic, biofilm defense, cd herbal, probiotics, speak oil, zinc, c, carnitall, pycogenol, coq10, enzymes... after having a high temp and cough for 4 days, i took her to her allopathic md on friday who diagnosed her with pneumonia. no xray, but i am pretty sure he is right. in any event, friday night her fever broke and it has been normal ever since. her o2 level is good (we have an oximeter), and she has been playing, but still has a crackle in her chest (i have a stethoscope) and gets tired very easily. i thought the cd herbal (which has oregano) might be helping the pneumonia and started giving her low doses (but steady throughout the day) of garlic capsules, monolaurin, olive leaf (with some grapefruit seed) extract for the first time. i know that was a lot to do at once, but our DAN (who hasn't been very available during this period) has been wanting us to try nystatin. i realize how serious pneumonia can be and thought i was warranted. she had a great morning, but truly had a melt down as i have NEVER seen this afternoon. i do not want to have to ultimately give her the antibiotic (zithromax) for many reasons including the fact that we believe her hearing loss and vestibular damage is due to gentamicin/lasix ototoxicity. shall we keep on with the garlic, ole, and monolaurin? any advice, comments, or words of wisdom on any aspect of our situation would be most appreciated from this group. thank you.
