Guest guest
Dear group, For those that deliver this service, we are trying to work out how to bill insurance(s). Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike Mike Moreau, M.S.P.T., Cert. MDT Physical Therapy Specialists 1344 N. Center St., Suite B Hickory, NC 28601 F mike@... Guest guest
, When I was doing hippotherapy in IL we billed for my speech therapy service the same way as when I was in the clinic billing. I could work on core strength, breathing, trunk elongation and rotation, various sounds based on the position I have the child placed on the horse, following directions, etc. all while the child is on the horse. My goals were the same when using the horse in the barn verses using a therapy ball in the clinic. How would we bill for this service? We will be working with doctors plus private insurance and Medicaid. I currently work in a hospital based outpatient department and not sure how to do this on a private basis. Guest guest
Please keep in mind the vast majority of insurance carriers do not knowingly reimburse for hippotherapy as many consider it investigational and experimental. The key word in the previous sentence is knowingly. Most likely, you will be reimbursed for your therapy services since most of your claims never get reviewed. The thing to think about is what would happen if some of your claims were reviewed and documentation showed you did hippotherapy? Would you get reimbursed if on a pre-pay audit or keep the money if on a post-pay audit?
