Guest guest
We staff speech during the week from 7-3:30. We do have some OT and PT staff who work 10 hour shifts but haven't done this yet in Speech, except on the weekends where the volume is such for our 1 SLP that covers that she (they are all she's here) is sometimes here 10 hours. I am considering changing our 'hours of operation' for speech therapy from 9-5:30 to 7-3:30 but am wondering what hours other hospitals keep. Another option is having therapist work 4, 10 hour shifts from 7-5:30. Has anyone gone down this road and if so, what have you found? I appreciate your input. Guest guest
Our speech therapy services are available from 8-5:30 on Monday-Friday and 8-4:30 on weekends. We have one person start at 8am and one person start at 11am so we can cover more hours. We have 3 part time SLPs covering acute care so they work varying hours each day from 6 hours to 10 hours. We try not to let our NPO patients wait for swallow assessments if we can complete them same day as ordered.
