We have a habit of making ourselves a nice weekend-breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays, or, failing that, at least one of the days. The kind with freshly baked (OK, the bake-off variety...) bread, still warm, and tasty cheese, marmalade (apricot usually), etc. Sometimes egg. Coffee, of course... And we did that this past Saturday too, knowing it was the only chance that weekend, as we were going to be away from home Sunday morning. I heard a surprised: "I swear that in my mind that WAS the marmalade lid!" behind me and turned around to see the uncommon combination of tobacco and fruit... Not a weekend breakfast â€" not that much time for it, and not the same food â€" but still! What a difference a good night's sleep can make to a breakfast, huh? Hopefully we'll get a morning and breakfast like that this weekend as well.> > love> /Reb>

Reb, I am 71 and my husband, who was 13 years older

than me, died many years ago. We had weekends such

as you describe. Thank you for bringing back so many

lovely memories--and he was German and I am Spanis/

Italian--the food sounds very familiar!

Love to you and to ,

I hope so too! We have plans for a nice, relaxing spring Saturday this weekend. With reading, snacks (olives, prosciutto, salami, fruit, cheese, etc., a sort of customized Spanish tapas thing), and cold drinks. If possible (that is, if the spring weather should decide to stick around for the weekend), outside. But should the spring take a break, our living room is nice too. It's a version of one of our most cherished vacation traditions: To bring books to an outdoor restaurant somewhere nice, find a table in the shadow, and spend a considerable amount of time enjoying coffee/soda/ drinks/snacks/ ice-cream/ sandwiches while reading side by side and occasionally comment or quote something we are reading to each other. A bit quirky I suppose...But to us that really IS vacation.love/Reb>> Oh, dear, that morning sounds like some around here…. ;-)> > > > I'm certainly glad today was better for you! Reb,

That sounds so nice and relaxing. I may have to try that with my husband. We

have a covered patio in the back that overlooks the pool. I have been thinking

of buying an outdoor sofa and chairs for that space. You just helped me make my

decision final. It would be the perfect place to relax with some snacks and a

good book….. and my husband.

Tomorrow is our 27th wedding anniversary. We are both taking the day

off and going to have massages together and lunch at a romantic Italian restaurant.

I can’t wait!!

Have a great day,

Connie B

I can see how 5 kids would be distracting... And I am sure my mom would know what you are talking about as well, we were 5 siblings when I grew up... Not always the calmest setting...love/Reb> > >> > > Oh, dear, that morning sounds like some around here…. ;-)> > >> > >> > >> > > I'm certainly glad today was better for you! Congratulations! 27th anniversary, that's impressive! And your celebration sounds just perfect too! Do have some carpaccio (if you like that) and pasta for me ; )love/Reb> >> > Oh, dear, that morning sounds like some around here.. ;-)> > > > > > > > I'm certainly glad today was better for you! Yes, 5 children can certainly be distracting. I grew up with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. My mom was an only child, she had stairsteps, 6 years and 3 weeks between the oldest and the youngest. Out of the 5 of us, she was fortunate to have 3 grandchildren, until my youngest sister had 2 more children when her oldest was 15.

I don't remember a lot of my childhood, was usually lost in the crowd. I was basically the middle child, but not by birth order, but because my 2 brothers hung together and my 2 younger sisters stayed together. But when the 5 of us banded together, it could get bad. Normally we were pretty well behaved as we knew what would happen if we didn't. One time though, we had a babysitter and we, so bad, we tied her up and put her in the hall closet. We never had a girl for a babysitter again. My mom had the biggest high school football player she could find in the neighborhood babysit us. I don't remember how we were punished, but I know we were.

Love and hugs.

Tina.
