As I am not a true ambulance driver anymore, can somebody tell me the proper

way to refer to these diesel/modular ambulance combos (Not Types 1. 2 or 3).

I spent the " formative years " of my EMS career in Pennsylvania. Up there they

were called " Bus " , " Squad " or (usually by the police) " Meat Wagon " .

Over the years, I've also heard the terms " Rig " , " Truck " , " Bambalance " , " Wagon " ,

" Medic " , " Ambo " , " Aid Car " , " Aid Unit " , " Rescue " , and (sarcastically) " Taxi " .

I also seem to recall that in the EARLY days of ambulance service in Chicago,

when the CPD was involved, the minimally-equipped rigs they ran were called

" Squadrols " . Dr. Larry could confirm this, he wrote about it in a book.

" Bus " , " Rig " , and " Medic " seem to be the most popular around here, from what

I've heard.
