Hi Theresa,

Haven't tried those 2 but did go on the Aitkins for 10 mths and lost 6 lbs. Since then I have been put on a regime by the naturopath that is no wheat, dairy, pots, toms or peppers. My pants are starting to slide down and people are starting to make comments on how much that I am losing and I am eating 3 meals and snacking at least 3+ others and having 5-10 fruits and veggies a day. I am eating as near to how things are grown as possible and have removed all processed food from my diet. As yet I have not been on a scale so not sure how much is gone but the fact that I am feeling well and have energy to work is more important than what my weight is because I am finding that the better I feel the more I can do and it is an upward spiral and it is great. Good luck.

Does anyone do Craig or weight wathchers? If you do does it work for you. What is a good diet to follow if you are Hypo and very over weight. I am so tired all the time and I know part of it is my weight. Sometime I do not eat until lunch time or later. I do not feel like eating a lot in the morning and I do wait too long to eat I know. I would love to know what has worked for some of you and what is good for us to at least give us some energy. I know the way I eat now just makes me more tired.ThanksTheresa

Thank you for the advice and God bless you. I tried Atkins years ago

and it make me break out in Hives so I would never do that again but

need to eat more natural like you mentioned. Why did they tell you

not to eat potatoes and tomatoes and peppers? Just curious. Aren't

they healthy veggies to eat?

Thanks

Theresa

This is just my opinion.. but I don't really think that diets designed for folks with normal metabolisms would do us much good.

Taking into consideration that without sufficient thyroid hormone our metabolism are just plain not efficient. Combine that with the fact that if calories are dropped to low, or are too inconsistent it effects thyroid hormone conversion and further reduces metabolism.

Most diets are based on reducing calories drastically which is precisely what doesn't work for us.

By us I mean folks that are on replacement hormone with reduced normal thyroid function.

What worked for me to maintain weight, to no longer gain was to realize that I had problems with carbs.. I was a carb addict... eating carbs triggered hunger in me causing me to over eat, not out of hunger, but out of wanting the carbs.... from there I learned to balance protein and carbs to avoid binge triggers....

When I finally started getting my hormone levels up and felt as though I had more energy and felt stronger I started thinking about what to do about trying to get weight off. The trigger to that end was a Dr. Phil special.. it's not so much that what he was talking about made sense to my circumstance it was that he made me realize that we have to take control of our situation and work from that angle.. and not try to take someone elses plan and conform to it... So I wanted something that would help my hypo body and not something that worked for normal folks that had over eating problems for whatever reason.

I started eating mini meals. I determined the total calories that I needed per day and divided that up into 6 meals. Each meal balance in carbs and protein. I ate every 2 to 3 hours.

The most important thing for us, well for ANYONE, is to eat breakfast.. it's breakfast that gets energy into our bodies and allows us to start our day after a night of fasting.... without breakfast our energy comes from our adrenals having to cover for us.... adrenaline and other adrenal hormones surging into our systems to provide the energy to get things moving... then our bodies dip into our fat reserves converting that fat into energy.... then, when we finally do eat the body's first priority is to replace that fat.... Thats why starvation diets never work.... any way... long story here..

Back to the point... eating small frequent meals keeps the energy levels up for us and for hormone conversion. Proper timing of meals increases metabolism by convincing the body that there is surplus food and it can put what we eat to energy and not have to go to the extra effort of converting food to fat and then fat to calories.

But before any of that can work. Hormone levels have to be up to the point where metabolism is no longer being reduce due to insufficient hormones and can be affecting my eating and exercise schedules... until that point is reached. You'll just be beating your head against a brick wall when it comes to trying to achieve a healthy weight...

.... see... I told you it was my opinion... no throwing of rotten apples and tomatoes, please!!! hehehehe

Oh, last thought.... you know how when you exercise to reach your target heart range and all that to allow your body to have an elevated metabolic rate for HOURS after you finish exercising....? That only works for folks with healthy thyroid glands that can adjust production based on physical stimuli . With those of us on replacement hormone, especially those with little or no natural thyroid function.. our metabolism are controlled, first, by the hormones that we take.. So, once again, we're back to proper hormone levels... if you levels are too low... it doesn't matter how little you eat or how much you exercise, the body's first priority is to maintain life... so metabolic rates will drop if it perceives danger...

Okay.. now I'll stop...

well i joined weight wathers on line last summer and lost 14 lbs.i gave my subsrciption after 3 months and gained it back.I just joined back this passed week and hoping it will get me back in the game. The good thing about WW is that you are always eating. They stress little meals and healthy eating. That way cravings don't take over.there are message boards and ponit trackers.its agreat plan and would recommend it for anyone who is serious about wanting to take care of themselves!

Good luck and i hope i helped in some way.
