Hi ,

I'm curious ... do you know what causes the infection? Is it from

the yeast leaving the body? The vagina would be a " clearing out "

passageway.

What I mean is does the yeast cause the problem as it's leaving, or

does the infection just come from having too much in your body?

I don't know anything about this, but maybe somebody else does.

What I have noticed is that when I eat too much sugar (not on SCD),

I get itchy in some of those unmentionable places, plus stuffy nose,

and when it's REALLY bad, my ears start to ring!

Hi Michele,

I have been on this list for some time, but I hardy ever post. I

have had GI issues myself, but with proper diet, I have been able to

lessen the symptoms. I eat cashews and other nuts and have never

had a problem with yeast,however when I consume a lot of fruit and

natural sugars then that is where I can get into trouble. My

reccomendation is to eat more vegetables and lean protein to flush

out the yeast, and to stay away from the sugars for a while to get

your normal flora back in balance. Also a good pro biotic and or

natural yogurt would help. Cheese also has a lot of mold and can

feed yeast. Hope this helps.

her " and she recommended pecans. NOW, pecans are fine, but in a lot

of things, they do not have the taste/color/texture to " do it " for

Luke. And as far as he is concerned, how would I know if he's

having yeast issues? It's pretty obvious with ME, ick. But he

seems good, I'm thinking maybe yeast is not bad for him? What I'd

like to do is switch me over to almond, and continue to use cashew

and pecan with him (almonds are too high in sal's).

This does help, thank you. I'm calming down now. I just hate when a new issue

pops up, and I have to re-evaluate things yet again, I go through a " moment "

with myself over it all and then I just bear down and go with the flow. This is

very, very helpful, thank you.

This does help, thank you. I'm calming down now. I just hate when a new issue

What about asking a yeast specialist, like Bill Shaw? Anyone able to

contact him? It might just be someone that can be contacted easily,

who knows? Would you like me to find out what his email address is,

perhaps?

I'm very interested in what he might have to say. He has done so much

research. It puzzles me totally. I do hope it is yeast battling its

way OUT, trying some last ugly thing...

I'm sure this is a stupid question because A) you have already taken

precausions or B) its not an issue, but... Could it be that you are

getting re-infected from the outside? I'm talking soap

(shower/laundry), hot weather, husband? I try not to use too much

probiotic because when I do then I get UTIs (if its not one thing its

the other, right?!?) But my hands get extremely dry and it isn't

taken care of by lotion, (such that they crack and bleed at knuckles)

and it itches. I'm thinking topical yeast. Its always worse when I

eat too much sugar.

No :(

Although I am quite sure he is sensitive to the salicylates. I can

now see the difference from calm, organized, focused to ADHD within

hours. Unfortunately the hyperactivity turns to irritability for

like 3 days. So much for strawberries....

A few thoughts:

You (everyone) always has some yeast in their bodies. So the idea of

truly getting rid of it is a misnomer- something we say, but will

never truly be (and we don't want it to be, because yeast is part of

the natural balance of the gut, and probably teh female genital

tract - not sure on that one). It is only a problem when there

is " overgrowth " - more than there should be (whatever that number

is).

There is a ton of info on the net about yeast, search on Candida.

Many books/practitioners caution against the use of cheese (moldy=

fungus, yeast is a fungus), peanuts (again, mold) chocolate, apple,

banana, sugars, vinegar (and all fermented foods), mushrooms

(fungus) and I don't remember what all else as well as breads while

trying to get rid of yeast. Elaine tends to have a different view,

but IMO, Elaine and her method are a SLOW, LONG TERM method (I think

should would agree to some extent). I don't remember a cashew

caution, but ADam couldn't eat them at one time, so I was not

looking for it. I do know they are supposed to have more carbs than

other nuts, hence (guessing Elaine's position), potentially more

left over undigested food for bad bugs.

If one has had a yeast problem for awhile, even if asymptomatic,

they can be imbedded in all kinds of places/folds in teh gut, and

elsewhere in the body.

I do now know whether it is when yeast are leaving (dying, tyring to

fight for their lives?) that the problem/itching is most severe, or

when they are growing. I have some similar symptoms, and would love

to know - MARJAN - IF YOU DO HAVE A WAY TO CONTACT DR. SHAW< IT

WOULD BE GREAT.

I think its also quite possible that as bacteria are reduced via

SCD, yeast have less natural enemies, and could multiply somewhat

for a time, as long as they have food.

As for GSE: Some yeast are resistant. Also, don't know if oral

ingestion will work on yeast outside the digestive tract. Soaking

in it (in tub, or on washcloth) is supposed to help - that is,

direct contact with teh infected area.

One key thing that has also been mentioned, but I'll say again, very

plainly (heck, we're all friends here right?) It is quite possible

that your husband is contributing to your problem. Does he have

longterm jock itch? rough, tough or leathery feeling skin

in " sensitve personal areas " ? Common recurring athlete's foot? All

can be signs of yeast infection.

If he's not SCD, and/ or he has yeast overgrowth, he could easily

pass some to you (we've been down this road).

I also learned that a pap smear can show yeast (neat huh? fairly

routine easy to get test!) I don't know how sensitive it is, or how

reliable. I also learned that I have had (probably still do have)

yeast overgrowth, without symptoms (showed on pap).

Not that any of this really helps your situation. You may want to

boost your probiotics, and then your immune system after you take

whatever antifungals - zinc can help boost your immune system, along

with vitamin C. Transfer factors are another (pricey) possibility.

You might try selenium, or biotin also. Selenium can help keep the

neutrophils in sufficient supply (those are the " things " in your

blood that help kill yeast). You can get an idea if your

neutrophils are low in a routine blood test.

I have been working on this problem with my daughter for 3 years.

She is n/t, but definitely has yeast and bacteria. SCD is not

taking care of it for her. I've not had the same testing for her as

for Adam, so I can't compare (maybe his was even worse, and so his

good neuro/behavioral results are just getting the WORST of it

gone. She doesn't have neuro issues to deal with, but does have red

genital area, a rash on legs, soft fuzzy stools). We can get those

better, but can't seem to " keep " them better. Don't know why yet

(sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear, just wanted you to

know you are not alone).

Hi Liberty & ,

I've used the yogurt remedy before for yeast infections and it is

pretty effective. (DH thought I was nuts) I also ate a fair amount

at the same time and drank plenty of water.

I have also used yogurt on various skin irritations with great

results. I have also used it as a wonderful facial mask. That was

our twenty four hour yogurt. See it's good inside and out. ;)

I'm scd compliant for 2 weeks now but have battled yeast for over 15

years. You need to avoid simple sugars to battle the yeast. If you

can just drop the juices and fruit out of your diet for a few days

it will definately help.

Is there anyone else out there lurking who is a yeast patient trying

SCD? As a yeast patient and one with lots of food allergies on this

diet it is difficult for me to find things to eat.

Hi ,

For what it's worth v. yeast infections tend to make me very

irritable. Like: Mommy is breathing fire today watch out!

, I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time. I am now doing a

modified SCD for Abby due to a lot of issues that I won't go into but I'll

have to say that I have found that the cashew flour I got from nuts4u, that

I made into pancakes does not digest well for her. You can see it all in

her stools. I have cut that out as well as using cashew butter everyday. I

know it's frustrating for you............go with your gut instincts on what

to do because everybody is different.

thinking maybe yeast is not bad for him? What I'd like to do is switch me

over to almond, and continue to use cashew and pecan with him (almonds are

too high in sal's).

Cheese is one thing I can grab to snack on. Almost every single day I have

a few chunks of mild cheddar or havarti cheese with some kind of fruit,

grapes or an orange or a very ripe pear (all of which I'm able to tolerate

raw & peeled). So I need to back off on cheese? Choices sure are slimming

down here...
