Going To Fair...And Stuff

We are going to the fair today. My son wants to eat supper there. I plan on

scouting out all the food and trying to make a good choice. Every year they have

a Godfather's pizza booth, so I know I can get a piece of pizza if all else

fails. It will be very difficult to pass up all the homemade pies, shakes,

pork, barbeques....but thanks to everyone's help here, I'm back OP with a

vengeance, and I'll make it through. I wish Subway would sell at our fairs.

Good Morning WW sisters and brothers..... *smile* You are such a wonderful

family!

Friday a senior friend and I will be going to our county fair. She is such a

sweetee and is very excited and so am I. She wants to have lunch at the fair

too. Ha. This dear lady was telling me all about the food they ate last year.

OOO my. She described some fresh made french fries smothered with chili and

cheese...Can you imagine the points there? I believe I will find something to

eat but just in case I will take a nectarine. Just for insurance. I am hoping

to find a nice soft, clean, white fleece to spin.

I am sure the county and state fairs are happening all over. Anyone find some

great food that is point conservative? I sure don't want any grease ball bread

or potatoes...lol. Our California state fair is a happening thing too. OOOOOO

I just love fairs.

Well..yall. This is my zoo work day so I will see y'all later. Have a great

day!

Lyn,

Why not pack a low-point sandwich and a snack and pack it in a small

cooler .....

Fairs can be such a challenge...we have our Minnesota State Fair

starting in a couple weeks and it can be a real challenge to not give

in the all the wonderful tempting treats! They do have some options

however, this is my game plan for our visit. I'm going to visit the

fruit kabob booth, fresh fruit on a stick, you can't go wrong! I'll

probably have a soft shell taco and I'll maybe have have a couple

ears of roasted corn on the cob and just tell them to skip the butter

dunk they usually do, the corn is so sweet it doesn't need the butter

anyway, just a little salt :) Then depending on how many points I've

saved or, with all the walking we'll be doing, so I'll have some ap

points, I might have a couple mini donuts or share a small fresh cut

french fries with my hubby or kids. No corn dogs for me this

time....they're so good, but really high points and I can probably

have the taco, corn and fruit for the points in one corn dog!

Anyway, hope you have fun and find some healthy, good treats while

you're there!

Mitch, as perfect as that is....packing my food and taking it with me, I'm

coming back from a bad attitude, and I think if I did not allow myself to eat at

the fair, I'd feel majorly deprived again. We go every year and it's a happy

family tradition. My son sat and talked about what food he wants to eat

today...pies, muffins, etc. For him, it's a one-day extravaganza of great food.

For me, I'll just have to be on guard, take my dining out book for comparisons,

and wing it, so to speak. I am really watching my attitude, trying to get it

back to where it once was. I have thought this through many times, and I'll

just have to make a smart choice there. Otherwise I'll be grouchy and reaching

for a giant chocolate shake. :-0 I'll have eaten only 8 points today before

fair, so I'll have 21 points to play with there.

We went to the fair on Monday. My husband and I packed sandwiches and fruit. I

had some of my son's cinnamon roll and my husband had a beer and some kettle

corn. My daughter had cheese on a stick (a hunk of cheese, battered and fried

like a corn dog) I don't even want to think about the points on that! So we did

okay points wise.

After hearing everyone talk about deep fried twinkies on this list, guess what?

They added them to the fair this year. People were talking about them, but not

many people seemed to try one. They were also offering fried oreos. What do you

think the approximate point value for a fried twinkie would be? I've only had a

twinkie once, one time in grade school (but regulat, not fried) -

Christi...that sound great to me. I will look for such a booth at our county

fair. We are a big ag area so maybe I will find something. Thanks....

Sharon

I get my strength from Jesus...

Our state fair every year has a huge grill set up for

the pork producers, its lean pork and they make a

sandwich.. if you put low point condiments on it,

would it be that bad, say with a salad or some fresh

fruit?

There isn't a whole lot. If it were me I would run by Subway on the way

over and bring a 6 incher with me, some grapes, and some pringles fat

free.

You can do it Lyn. There are times when it's harder than other times for

me, but sometimes I find NOW that when there is such a HUGE

preponderance of junk food, nothing appeals to me. It just disgusts me

that there is nothing healthy.

I had to take a class the last two days and the teacher, overweight

herself by probably 75 pounds, brought treats. She brought jelly beans,

licorice, suckers, and cookies. Nothing even remotely healthy. It didn't

bother me because of course she brought this out of kindness, and I

brought my own food anyhow. Because there was nothing healthy, there was

no reason for me to even go to the table. I considered one jelly bean,

but someone was in front of the table when I walked by so I just didn't.

Not that I didn't have any treats today! I stopped by Costco and got

some FF frozen yogurt (and some lettuce and white peaches) before we

went out to dinner and then to a meeting. Dinner was soup and salad at

Olive Garden (minestrone=2 pts, salad=2 pts for 2 Tbs dressing <on the

side>...I take off the croutons and no cheese so it's 0 points for the

veggies.)

No Mitch, you have a very good point. It completely is in line with what

this list is all about.

Again, not at ALL suggesting that Virginia is doing anything wrong, but

offering another opinion.

I attend the fair a few times a year (we have two really good ones that

we always go to). You can go and stay on program. For me, I know I'll go

on a weekend. I will have banked points and will feel free to use those

banked points. I won't eat something like an elephant eat because they

are just plain NOT good for me (deep fried anything will not go into my

body except the occassional single french fry). Again, this would be my

choice.

For me the fun is in the activity. Yeah, I know there are some really

tempting foods at the fair, but I go to hear the concerts, to spend time

with my family, to load up on the silly little freebies I share with my

students, to watch cool things I only see once a year like forging,

giant draft horses, log rolling, and carvers. I don't go for the food.

If I know I want a specific food, I'll do my darndest to find

nutritional values online and then decide if it is worth it.

There are always going to be things that only come once a year...let's

just list a few reasons to go off program because it " only happens once

a year " :

The fair

Christmas

Valentine's Day

Easter

Thanksgiving

My birthday

My husband's birthday

Our anniversary

Thanksgiving

Independence Day

Halloween

The anniversary of our first date (which we always celebrate)

Vacation (for most of us)

Opening day of baseball season

New Year's Eve

New Year's Day

Superbowl Sunday

Mother's Day

Father's Day

So if I were to indulge just once a year for each of these days I would

be going off program 19 days (only counting ONE day for vacation).

That's more than once a month, on average.

My body needs me to stay true to it every day. This is my personal way I

do Wwers. When I make a commitment I don't do it halfway. This isn't

said to judge anyone else but just to offer some 0 point food for

thought.

Again, this would be my

choice.

I think that what has happened here is that Lyn and BOTH made posts

about going to the fair. Lyn's email about going was basically about eating

whatever because if she restricts herself after her " attitude " with the

program, it might continue. 's post was more about how she had planned

to eat such and such.

A very easy mistake to make... Someone must have replied with the wrong name

assigned to the email. Lyn/.. pretty similar!!

Just remember........... only eat ONE serving. This is made with Olean.

You could have a very unpleasant gastrointestinal incident... (and it might

take awhile to occur). LOL

But they are very good!!

I don't know the actual composition of it.. but I *think* it is supposed to

be made from regular oil, but processed somehow. After you do your search,

could you post the answer here? Pretty please?

May I just add to this.... " Lyn's email about going was basically about eating

whatever " .....if I didn't state it, I meant WITHIN points range. lol Sorry, just

adding to the confusion a little bit more.

I don't know how things got messed up, but I do know there were no " personal "

attacks. We do have a serious philosophy here, and I don't remember whose post

it was, but one did sound like eat whatever because it's only one day...but I

think it was later clarified. I think we're all on the same wavelength about

being serious. So let's not take anything personally, and just move forward,

okay? I haven't run into a whiney member yet (except ME) and I think we're all

doing great.

Tory, it disgusts me too that there weren't good choices at the fair. I did,

however, see one booth that had a great big sign, " Shrimp is a diet food " and it

was a shrimp booth. Personally, I don't like shrimp, so I don't even know the

nutritional information on it. Maybe it is a " diet " food, maybe it was prepared

nutriciously....and if so, I hope they did a big business. Maybe next summer I

should come up with a nutritious menu and hit the fair circuit and make some

money....then again, I'd probably go broke. Everyone I saw eating was devouring

curly fries, shakes or grease-laden food. It would be nice to have the option

of nutritious food, though.

And Tory, your dinner sounds wonderful. I LOVE Olive Garden's salad. I get the

dressing on the side too, but it's out of this world!

RE: Going To Fair...And Stuff

You can do it Lyn. There are times when it's harder than other times for

me, but sometimes I find NOW that when there is such a HUGE

preponderance of junk food, nothing appeals to me. It just disgusts me

that there is nothing healthy.

If you're sensitive to O'lean, don't eat them. If not, they are awesome.

I think it's 17 chips (I always eat 15, so it may be 15) for 1 point. I

mean you just can't BEAT that! I like Sour Cream and Onion best, but the

plain ones are good too.
