Guest guest
Re the liquor... Bonnie is right. ABSOLUTELY no liquor for at least the first year, and preferably your whole life. However, if you must, just a small amount no more than a few times a month. If I recall correctly, this is addressed in his patient manual?? Guest guest
ABout the liquor - does anyone know why you are not supposed to have it? I believe it does serious liver damage post-op - but I am not sure. I know someone who had this surgery and became an alcoholic AFTER having the surgery. This person decided to live the life of an 18yo party animal at the age of 30. - Figured they would make up for lost time - anyway, they are now sober and attending AA regularly - but I am worried about the long term damage that they might have done? ANyone know? Thanks, Tara Lynn --- ldmodert@... wrote: > From: ldmodert@... > > Re the liquor... Bonnie is right. Guest guest
I don't know what Dr. R. says about alcohol after surgery, but just today a friend of mine (who had the surgery about 5 years ago) mentioned that she can still put away some beers! So I think it's presonal preference after a while. I wouldn't suggest it right away though!

Guest guest
I understand that we MGB patients will always be at greater risk of the liver damage which alcohol is capable of causing in anyone. I plan to have a glass of champagne next new year, but after that only on the rarest of occasions and then only in moderation.
