Guest guest
Hi Patti, During my son's second chelation cycle, we had to make a 13 hour car trip. I divided a DMSA capsule at home into the proper dosage size for my son, and then poured each pile into separate 3 oz paper cups. I covered each cup with plastic wrap which was held on with a rubber band. Next I took each paper cup and nestled it into a muffin tin, so that they cups would be less likely to tip over while we were on the road. I carried a kitchen timer with me so that we could easily remember when it was time to give a dosage. (I also carried along some more DMSA and my cutting board, so that I could measure more DMSA after we got to our location, for our time there, and for the trip back home.) I've always given most of my son's supplements mixed in a spoon of corn-free, gluten-free Ketchup, so I took that along in a small cooler with an ice pack. I also packed plenty of spoons and some dye free toothpicks for stirring supplements into the ketchup. (First I put a small amount of ketchup in the spoon, then I added the DMSA, stirred it in well with the toothpick, and then added other supplements as needed, stirring them in too.) I found it easiest to bend the paper cup just a little, in order to create a spout, so that I could get the DMSA into the spoon without it going everywhere. I also gently tapped the cup on the bottom some, to ensure that I had gotten the DMSA all out. I've used the paper cup method for shorter trips away from home too. In fact, my son has had his chelation dose in restaurants, store parking lots, at relatives' and friends' houses, on camping trips, etc., repeatedly. Not that long ago I asked Andy if it was okay to give a dose EARLY, and he said YES. (Of course, then the next dosing time would be three hours after that...not after when you WOULD have given him his regular dose.) So now if we are headed out to a restaurant or a store, I just give my son a dose before we leave. Janice

Hi Patti, I think mixing it into anything wet/moist [such as peanut butter] is not okay..... unless it is something acidic and then not too far ahead of time. See text about this in the HOW_TO_buy_DMSA file. It is okay to mix it into something DRY [like powdered sugar, which probably your son does not eat!!]. you could put the little divided doses into capsules. any covered container would work if you plan to mix it into juice (or water) later on. Like a mayonaise jar with a lid with a tiny bit of DMSA in the bottom-- would work if you add liquid and shake it around. [Would not work to get the tiny bit OUT of however.] or you could buy a dozen of the TINY little round containers [like tiny makeup containers]-- I think the drugstore has these in the travel containers?? This would work to add a bit of sticky food in and mix around.... best wishes, Moria p.s. I agree with Janice about the early doses=== this made logistics MUCH easier for me--- if you are just going out for a couple of hours giving the dose early at home may be the easiest. p.p.s. the " acidic " mixing suggestions I've read have all been juice--- however, I see no reason why mixing DMSA into pinapple chunk would not work. Or sprinkling it into the middle of a segment of an orange.....
Guest guest
Put the DMSA and ALA (if used) in a 3 oz. dixie cup with the top folded over and clamped with a clip. 5 minutes before it's time to administer the DMSA, open cup and mix with liquid of choice. Guest guest
We buy applesauce in the luch size cups. When they are empty we wash and save them. When my husband divides up the DMSA and ALA he puts them in equal piles and them slides the mix into the empty cups. When it is time for a dose we just add a bit of apple or pear sauce. The cups are stackable so when we go out we take them along and bring unopened applesauce to mix with a spoon. Works great for us. We always bring along one more than we think we will need in case we get stuck in traffic! PS I also use these cups to put his supplements in. So if we are on the road for lunch, etc.,I put his lunch supps in an empty cup and stack it with the rest of the mess. They fit quite well in the drink holder. > In a message dated 9/28/02 5:32:17 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > etiguy@c... writes: > > << > Put the DMSA and ALA (if used) in a 3 oz. dixie cup with the top folded over > and clamped with a clip. 5 minutes before it's time to administer the DMSA, > open cup and mix with liquid of choice. > >> > how about just bringing the capsules, and applesauce, and spoon, and when > it's time just open them up and mix in the applesauce. Guest guest
Hi, On a day trip to the zoo, I premixed the DMSA/ALA with water (her normal administration) and put the dose into a little brown homeopathic bottle with a dropper top. I could keep this in my pocket, if need be, without worry of leakage, and could adminsiter it immediately anywhere. Then I could rinse the bottle out with a little water to make sure all of the DMSA/ALA was adminsitered. I don't see why you couldn't premix a few of these if kept chilled. Actually, according to Andy, DMSA needs to be mixed into something ACIDIC if you are not going to give it right away. Water does not qualify. best wishes, Moria /files/HOW_TO_buy_DMSA (section on mixing)
