Interesting about balance and the dark. While my balance can get worse

when I'm tired and that is usually in the evenings, I have never really

analyzed my balance in the dark. I just keep nightlights on so I don't

trip on dog toys, but I wonder if I just stood still in the dark, or

went for a walk after dark what would happen. Thanks for giving me this

to ponder on. I also wonder if my balance is worse in winter, when the

days are shorter and better in the summer when there's more

light.Interesting.

Hi Fellow CMTers,

I have an answer for the balance problem and darkness. After my

first heart attack, while I was in the hospital recuperating, a team of

doctors came to see me. The neurologist wanted to show this team of doctors

traits of CMT and asked if he could examine me in the presence of the other

doctors. I said OK, and was told to stand up and try to keep my balance, I

had a hard time, but I kept pretty steady for a few seconds. The doctor then

told me to close my eyes and try to keep my balance, as soon as I closed my

eyes, my balance was totally thrown off. I heard one of the doctors say that

there was a direct correlation between me seeing and keeping my balance. The

neurologist explained to the other doctors that he has noticed this before

with other CMT patients. So darkness and balance is connected, because you

cannot see, it throws you balance off. I noticed this the other night when I

was leaving a healing session at a church, there was no lights in front of

the church and it was very dark. I could not gain my balance until my eyes

adjusted to the darkness and even then it was hard to keep my balance, I also

had my cane with me. I hope this will help you.

Al Hasim

I was just wondering ... Do any of you ever get dizzy in your sleep.

Sometimes this happens to me ... It's not exactly like getting dizzy, its

more of a disoriented feeling, kind of like losing balance. Doesn't happen

very often, but when it does, it wakes me up ... and then everything seems to

be fine.

According to my Grandmother (bless her) dizzyness is sleep was fine and falling

okay as long as you didn't land. And, she didn't have CMT

I have the same feeling of disorientation a lot lately. Not so much when I

am asleep but when I turn my head a certain way or go to lay down.

Sometimes it feels like needles in my head at the same time. Very

interested to know if any others have this problem. My neck surgeon said he

thinks it is in my ears, but I have already had a CAT Scan and everything

was clear.

Hi, ...

Thanks for the reply ... I have had two neck surgeries .. I wonder if the

disorientation could be coming from that area in someway. It only affects me

when I'm asleep ... but it is so disconcerting that it wakes me up.
