Just wondering...

Hey everyone,

Since we (y'all) have been discussing EMSAT's effectiveness as an

orgainzation, I was wondering what everyone thought about NAEMT? I was

considering joining, but was looking for the opinions of some of my more

experienced, and probably better informed colleagues.

Thanx and Gig 'Em!

With all due respect, please explain to me how EMSAT membership is part

of the standard of care. Does EMSAT provide further training for EMS providers?

Does EMSAT have a peer-reviewed academic journal?

Under your logic, as I am seeing it, if I drive a truck and have a wreck,

I have breached the standard of care if I'm not a member of the Teamsters.

Interesting legal theory. I'd love to see the relevant case law to back your

assertions on the list.

It depends on the scope of the professional membership. A social or labor

organization would have very little effect on establishing credibility.

Membership in a voluntary accrediting organization like FACEP (for emergency

physicians) or FACS (for surgeons) would go a long ways. Leadership in such an

organization would go even further.

But based on what I've seen, I've found few major EMS organizations that

would go a long ways towards establishing a witness's credibility.

Perhaps I overstated the need, I did not mean just EMSAT. A professional

Origanization, could be NAEMT, EMS Educators or any other. In a court room

it is a way that an attorney helps to establish your credability.
